This provision is good
The childminder makes good use of her self-evaluation process. For example, she reflects on her practice and asks parents and children for their views and suggestions to improve the learning experiences for children further. The childminder takes children on a wide variety of outings, such as parks, clubs and playgroups. This helps children to develop further their social, communication and physical skills. Children form strong relationships with the childminder. For example, she is affectionate and caring to promote children's personal well-being. Children communicate well. Very young children confidently express themselves through simple words and gestures. Older children communicate their ideas and needs.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always make the best use of the activities she plans to challenge and extend children's learning. For example, while exploring an interactive world globe, the childminder talks about each country's anthem as they play; however, she does not extend this further to find out what children already know about these countries. On occasion, the childminder misses opportunities to encourage children to do things for themselves to build on their growing independence skills.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further
improve the consistency of support to extend and build on children's interests further make the most of all opportunities to help children to be more independent in their learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children playing together indoors and outdoors. The inspector spoke to parents. The inspector and childminder participated in a joint observation. The inspector reviewed a sample of documentation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder keeps up to date and well informed, such as through attending training and completing online research, to help provide additional learning activities for children. For example, she has created mathematical games to help children develop their counting skills. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a very good knowledge of how to identify and report child protection concerns. The childminder forms strong partnerships with parents. She talks to them daily and gathers additional information from them and from other professionals to help her meet children's changing needs. Parents state that they feel her 'home from home' approach and the nurturing relationships that she develops with children are her strengths.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her good observation and assessment process to monitor children's progress effectively. For example, she identifies gaps in learning, and works effectively together with parents and other agencies to help to support children who have special educational needs. The childminder helps children to actively investigate and explore, developing their physical and communication skills. For example, a child emptied the water trolley into buckets, which they poured down the drain. They chatted about what happens to water when it goes down the drain and started to think about how water is recycled. This enhances children's understanding of the world. The childminder helps children to develop their mathematical skills during play. For example, she encourages children to count their dolls and uses mathematical language, such as the 'heavy' bucket.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps children to learn about keeping themselves safe, for instance, by teaching them road safety awareness when they walk home from nursery, and helping very young children to safely crawl backwards down the stairs. The childminder is calm, patient and affectionate with children. She helps them to learn how to take turns and to share with each other. She helps children to behave well. For example, she sings songs to help children to learn to say 'please' and 'thank you' and to help to tidy up. The childminder promotes diversity. For example, she uses different dolls to help explain to children that people are from various communities and about people with disabilities. She promotes children's emotional well-being and self-esteem, for example, through praise.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Young children develop good physical skills. For example, they shake maracas during singing and pour water into funnels during play. Older children share with younger children while they play together. Children make good progress from their starting points and are prepared for their next stage of learning, including starting school.
