She actively seeks views from parents and others and is aware of her own strengths and areas for potential improvement.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder and her assistant work very well together. They use their life experiences and the skills they have learnt from training to deliver high quality home-based care and learning. The childminder supports her assistant well and regularly reviews her practice and engagement with children. The childminder ensures that she and her assistant are up to date with all mandatory training. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant are confident about the action to take to safeguard and protect children and keep them safe. The childminder shows that she has a desire to improve the service that she provides. She reflects upon her practice and involves parents, for example, by using questionnaires. Parents are encouraged to share ongoing details of what children enjoy and achieve at home.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children learn through a well-balanced mix of adult-directed and child-initiated play experiences. The childminder and her assistant know the children well. They interact frequently with the children during their play. They support children's growing vocabulary and language development well. The childminder listens carefully and responds well as children discuss their thoughts and ideas. Younger children are excited as they explore different facial expressions. Older children count confidently how many times they can bounce on the trampoline, and they use paintbrushes to write their name. The childminder observes and accurately assesses children's progress. She regularly shares the information with parents so they can support children's learning at home.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder and her assistant support children to play alongside others and to develop social skills, such as sharing with each other. They consistently praise children's efforts and achievements, which helps children to grow in confidence and self-esteem. Children keep active with daily exercise and outdoor play, which promotes their good health and physical development. The childminder and her assistant support children's independence skills well and children are well behaved. They have many opportunities to develop their confidence and social skills away from the childminder's home.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and development. They are curious, interested and independent learners. They gain the self-confidence to talk to unfamiliar people and proudly discuss their achievements. The childminder provides children with challenging experiences that cover all the areas of learning and supports them to develop skills in readiness for school.
