p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
Staff do not make good use of all available resources when planning, to ensure children benefit from suitable and challenging learning experiences, including in supporting those children who prefer learning outdoors. Some staff lack a secure understanding of how to use their assessments to quickly identify and close any gaps in children's learning. This hinders children from making good enough progress. Some staff miss opportunities when interacting with children to extend further their language development and speaking skills. Professional development opportunities for some staff do not always focus rigorously enough on raising the quality of teaching practice.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The manager has a suitable understanding of most requirements and his role to oversee the day-to-day running of the creche. Staff are sensitive and caring in their approach. They provide a warm and child-friendly environment, where children feel safe and secure. Staff have developed suitable partnerships with parents and other professionals, and generally work together to promote children's care and physical needs.

improve opportunities for children to hear and use words, and have sufficient time to respond to questions, to foster their growing language skills strengthen the programme for professional development to target weaker aspects of practice and to support staff further in their roles.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the interactions between staff and children as they engaged in activities together. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day and through their feedback provided on the creche's website. The inspector looked at a sample of documentation, including children's profiles, staff records of suitability and the creche's self-evaluation. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the manager and discussed staff teaching practices. The inspector spoke to staff about their safeguarding practices and their understanding of the creche's policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
Safeguarding is effective. Most staff have completed child protection training. They all have a suitable understanding of the procedures to follow if they had a concern about a child. However, professional development opportunities do not focus enough on improving staff practice in some areas. For example, despite the manager monitoring individual performance, some staff lack confidence in using their assessments to identify children's progress accurately. Staff are deployed effectively and carry out regular risk assessments, including outdoors. They ensure children are safe and supervise them appropriately at all times. The manager ensures all staff understand and implement the setting's policies and procedures, including the appropriate use of mobile phones and cameras. The manager generally takes into account the views of children and parents, to evaluate the quality of the provision and to improve some aspects of the provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
Staff do not plan all environments well, including outdoors, so that children have a balanced range of age-appropriate resources to enhance their learning experience. For example, despite children having some opportunities to look at books and to listen to stories, staff provide a limited range to engage all children fully and to sustain their interest. Nonetheless, babies enjoy exploring, such as different sounds and textures, and older children spend time problem solving, for example, completing simple puzzles, building with construction and exploring with sand and water. However, staff miss opportunities to enhance children's language and speaking skills, for example, to build their vocabulary and giving them sufficient time to respond to questions.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The lack of resources in some areas hinders children's overall enjoyment to explore freely during their play. Despite this, children are generally settled. They benefit from the positive relationships that they share with staff and their behaviour is good. Staff provide appropriate explanations to support children's understanding of sharing and taking turns. Staff promote children's physical needs appropriately. For example, they follow children's individual care routines in partnership with their parents. Staff provide a quiet space for children to rest and sleep according to their needs. Staff promote healthy and safe practices. They ensure all food provided by parents is stored and reheated appropriately.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children are developing some key skills to support their future learning. They are aware of following hygiene practices, such as hand washing, and learn to communicate their needs, such as during group situations. However, due to gaps in planning and assessment, children's progress is not consistently good.
