This provision is good

 The childminder regularly reflects on her practice. She considers what works well and identifies improvements to make. She seeks the views of parents and children to help maintain good standards and drive improvements.  Children have positive relationships with the childminder. They are happy and settled in her care. The childminder helps to promote children's emotional and physical well-being effectively.  Children behave well. The childminder teaches children to take turns, share, and how to keep themselves safe.  The childminder undertakes regular observations and assessments of children's development. She provides support to help parents extend their children's learning at home. Children make good progress in their learning and development.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not seek information from parents about what their children can do when they first start. She does not have accurate information to help her plan for children's learning precisely from the outset.  The childminder has not fully considered the organisation of the learning environment to help strengthen children's independence further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 gain more information about what children can already do when they start the setting to inform planning to extend children's learning from the outset  strengthen the organisation of the environment to help children to further develop their independence.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children playing.  The inspector considered the views of parents as part of the inspection.  The inspector spoke with the childminder at convenient times during the inspection.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's learning journals and the childminder's policies and procedures.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the procedures to follow if she has any concerns about children's welfare. She uses risk assessments effectively to identify and minimise potential hazards in her home, garden and while on outings to keep children safe. The childminder reflects on her practice to identify and update her professional development. She has used her new knowledge well to address the recommendations raised at her last inspection. For example, she has strengthened the resources that she provides to help children develop an interest in people that are similar or different from themselves.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses observations of the children's play to assist her in planning activities for their next steps in learning. She provides varied resources and activities to provide children with good levels of challenge and to extend their learning. The childminder provides a good range of opportunities to encourage children's early mathematical development. For example, she encourages children to solve problems as they try to fit different shapes into the correct places. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well. For example, they enjoy snuggling up with the childminder to share stories together.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment. She works closely with parents to find out about children's routines at home and follows these closely to help children to settle well, and to feel safe and secure. The childminder promotes children's emotional well-being and meets children's needs promptly. For example, she recognises when children need a rest and helps them to relax with their comforters. The childminder regularly meets with other local childminders and the children they care for, providing children with good opportunities to interact with others and explore new places.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children enjoy learning and develop a good range of skills. They gain confidence to explore and enjoy experiences that prepare them well for future learning. Children enjoy being physically active in their play. For example, children learn to climb and crawl on soft large bricks as they move with confidence and develop spatial awareness. Young children learn to express themselves using sounds and words and enjoy listening to songs and stories.
