This provision is outstanding

 The management and staff are highly driven and dedicated in delivering the highest standards of care and learning for the children. The children thrive at the nursery and make excellent progress from their starting points.  The staff complete extensive assessments on the children and know each child extremely well. They provide an abundance of rich experiences, and they consistently adapt the activities to meet the individual learning needs of each child.  The staff provide an extremely child-centred environment where the atmosphere is calm and nurturing. The children are eager to learn as they investigate, explore, and choose what they want to play with.  The children's behaviour is exemplary. They treat their friends, and the staff, with kindness and consideration. For example, they work together to solve problems and readily give support to each other to succeed.  The staff are extremely competent at promoting children's language skills. All children,

including those who speak English as an additional language, make rapid progress in their speech and gain the skills needed for the next stage in their learning.  The partnerships with parents and outside professionals significantly enhance collaborative working. The parents are actively engaged in their children's learning. The staff support the children's physical needs in every conceivable way.

Inspection activities

 The inspector had a tour of the nursery and took part in a joint observation with the deputy manager.  The inspector observed the quality of staff interactions with the children.  The inspector held discussions with the deputy manager, the owner and staff at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took into account the views of parents spoken to on the day.  The inspector looked at various documents, including policies, procedures, risk assessments, staff training records, some children's records and evidence of the suitability of staff to work with the children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

Those leading the nursery consistently strive to improve the nursery's service. They lead a highly impressive team that works extremely hard to maintain the highest quality of practice, and support the staff extremely closely. They encourage the staff to review their work and to access relevant guidance. This significantly improves outcomes for children and contributes to the outstanding quality of teaching. For example, following staff training, the children now enjoy extensive opportunities to investigate the natural environment, which provokes their curiosity. Safeguarding is effective. Leaders ensure the staff have a confident understanding of the procedures should they have any concerns about a child. Self-evaluation is accurate and includes the views of staff, the children and of parents. Recently, managers have identified the need to enhance children's exploration of technology.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The staff interact extremely skilfully to extend the children's learning during play. For example, when children enthusiastically plant sunflower seeds, the staff encourage them to think for themselves about what these need to grow, and to discuss possible differences in size. The staff often inspire the children's interests, such as when they excitedly hunt for insects in the garden. The children make full use of their growing skills; for example, they confidently count a spider's legs, and they have a strong desire to explore the more challenging activities that staff provide. The staff monitor children's learning accurately to ensure they consistently make swift progress.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children are extremely confident and happy in the nursery, which arises from the excellent relationships established with the staff. The staff place emphasis on fostering children's independence and sense of responsibility. For example, they continuously expect the children to make their own decisions. The staff have extremely high expectations of the children. They foster children's achievements and encourage them to succeed. For example, they expect the children to concentrate and follow picture instructions to complete a construction independently, and the children glow with pride when they do.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children make great strides in developing their early literacy skills. For example, the younger children have excellent coordination when they make marks, while the older children confidently write their names, and learn letter names and sounds. Children are highly motivated to learn and work extremely well together. They are extremely keen to have a go at new experiences, and gain valuable skills in preparation for school.
