This provision is good
The quality of teaching is consistently good. Children are eager to learn through activities and experiences that they enjoy. This helps them to make good progress in their learning. The childminder promotes children's well-being effectively. She helps children to feel secure and this supports their self-confidence. The childminder provides a well-organised play space. Children easily access the good range of resources and make decisions about what they want to play with. The childminder has a robust knowledge of the safeguarding and welfare requirements and children's safety is promoted well. The childminder is vigilant in her supervision of children and conducts risk assessments to help her identify potential hazards. The childminder works hard to form close bonds with parents and children during settling-in periods. She provides parents with regular updates about their children's learning and development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not gather enough information from parents about their children's learning at home. The childminder does not make use of all opportunities to extend her professional development and enhance her knowledge of early years practice.

The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's policies and procedures and children's assessment records. The inspector took account of the spoken and written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder shows a commitment to improving her provision. She regularly evaluates her practice to identify her strengths and areas to improve. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of the signs and symptoms which would alert her to any child protection issues. She knows the action to take if she is concerned about a child. The childminder closely monitors and assesses children's progress. She is able to quickly identify any areas where children may need extra support. The childminder understands the importance of establishing links with other settings that children may attend. She recognises the value of sharing information to ensure that children receive continuity and consistency in their learning and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes good use of her planning to make sure that all areas of learning are covered. Children's learning and development are carefully observed and assessed. This information is used well to plan next steps in learning and to ensure children are making good progress. The childminder helps to develop children's interest in books and they eagerly choose their own book for story time. The childminder makes good use of illustrations to build children's vocabulary. She encourages them to look at the pictures and they describe what is happening. Children are encouraged to play cooperatively and to develop their imaginations. They enthusiastically take part in dressing up to enjoy role play. The childminder is skilled in helping children develop their literacy and numeracy skills in preparation for school. She provides opportunities for children to develop early writing skills and they are keen to write their own name on their drawings.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and comfortable in the childminder's home. The childminder knows the children well and recognises when they are tired, providing them with cuddles and reassurance. Children's well-being is fostered effectively and they feel safe and secure in her care. The childminder promotes children's good health and self-care through routines, regular fresh air and exercise. Mealtimes are a social time for children and they sit together at the table to enjoy healthy and nutritious food. The childminder is a good role model and uses clear and consistent methods to manage children's behaviour. She offers positive praise, enabling children to have a sense of pride and achievement.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop good levels of confidence and self-esteem and are able to make independent choices. They play together well and learn about sharing and taking turns. They are well behaved and learn to be caring towards one another. All children make good progress given their starting points. The childminder reviews their progress closely and plans activities, motivating them to learn. Children acquire and practise the skills needed for the next steps in their learning, including school.
