The childminder is proactive with regard to continually updating her knowledge and skills. This has a very positive impact on the high-quality teaching and the constant improvement of children's learning experiences. The childminder places great emphasis on the use of self-evaluation. Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

Each child's progress is very carefully assessed by the childminder, working in close partnership with parents. Language for communication is developed exceptionally well. Children enjoy quality activities which encourage them to think and question. The childminder provides age-appropriate narratives, enabling them to increase their developing vocabulary. She allows plenty of time for them to share their ideas, helping them to link information together and give meaning to events. Children enjoy using their senses to explore, for example, they examine pine cones and other natural resources. The childminder skilfully weaves numbers into the activity as children count, estimate and categories the pine cones in size order. In addition, the childminder teaches children number games and how to complete jigsaws, she introduces positional vocabulary and simple calculations. Outside opportunities reflect the excellent variety and high quality of

those inside. This clearly enables those children who prefer to be outside to enjoy learning to the optimum.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children develop a very strong sense of self. They are confident and excitedly talk about previous learning experiences. The childminder regularly takes children to spend time in the wider community to enhance and develop their understanding of the world around them. Children are highly independent. They confidently help themselves to the resources they want and pour their own drinks when thirsty. The childminder provides children with a superb range of nutritious meals and snacks and involves them in growing fruits and vegetables. In addition, she encourages children to develop healthy hygiene routines. The childminder uses plenty of descriptive praise, helping children to understand what they have achieved and why it is so good. Children try new activities without fear of failure.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children thrive in this highly nurturing environment. They are happy, extremely well behaved, and maintain focus for significant periods. For example, children were engrossed and excited as they explored a large area of bark chipping, scooping, pouring and making mounds, using different sized tools and sit on toys, to re-enact the work of builders with diggers. Children are extremely well prepared for their future learning.
