This provision is good
The childminder makes regular and precise assessments of children's learning, which she typically uses effectively to ensure activities provide a good level of challenge. Children behave well. The childminder is a good example to the children and provides them with consistent and effective guidelines about their behaviour. The childminder teaches well. She has a clear understanding of how children learn and skilfully talks to children in ways that help to improve their learning and understanding. The childminder has a well-established programme of training, which includes attending appropriate courses and reading relevant articles. This helps her to improve her skills and her knowledge of early years requirements. The childminder has developed good relationships with parents and they are encouraged to make regular contributions to their children's learning and development. Parents regularly share information about their children's learning at home to promote

a good two-way flow of information about their children's development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Children do not always have access to resources that help them fully understand those people represented in the wider community. At times, children's natural curiosity and their interests are not nurtured fully to help extend their learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's teaching and its impact on the children's learning. The inspector checked documents, including the childminder's background, suitability checks and training certificates. The inspector looked at a sample of the childminder's planning documents, and discussed children's individual learning and development. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about her self-evaluation processes. The inspector looked at some of the childminder's policies and procedures, including those relating to safeguarding.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder understands her responsibilities well. For example, she is aware of the procedures to follow if she has any concerns about a child's well-being. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly assesses her practice accurately and includes the views of parents and children. Children are encouraged to make a contribution to the planning of future activities. The childminder ensures that these provide a broad range of interesting and demanding experiences that help children to make good progress, given what they know when they start. The childminder carries out detailed safety risk assessments for trips and outings, to ensure that the premises are safe and secure. There are good links with parents, for example, children's learning journals are regularly shared with them. Parents make positive comments and contributions to aid their children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her knowledge of how children learn to provide activities and opportunities that engage and motivate children to learn. For example, children enjoyed participating in a gardening activity to plant flowers. The childminder used good techniques to develop children's knowledge and understanding of how plants grow and what they need to thrive. The childminder uses her daily planning to support children's future learning. Activities are usually selected carefully to promote children's individual needs and to develop their basic reading, writing and mathematical skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's achievements are celebrated. They have rewards and praise to help promote their self-esteem and confidence. The childminder develops children's understanding of their good behaviour. They can give their reasons for why they received the rewards. The childminder uses an effective way to help children make a smooth start. She takes parents' views seriously and listens to them to support the emotional and social needs of their children when they arrive. This also helps to ensure that new children make a secure attachment with her and the older children. She helps children to manage their own safety through activities and they are encouraged to explore their environment carefully. For example, the childminder reminds the children to hold on as they manage the steps down to the garden on their own. Children have a good awareness of how to keep themselves healthy.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress. They are confident and outgoing and enjoy attending. Children gain secure skills in early reading, writing and mathematics and are well prepared for their next stage in learning, or for their move to school.
