This provision is good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. The childminder has high expectations of children and uses observations and assessments effectively to monitor their development and focus on next steps in their learning. The childminder works efficiently with her assistants, and children are supported well and their welfare given good attention. The childminder has established good relationships with parents and other professionals. She shares information and development plans to help promote continuity of children's care and learning well. The childminder undertakes regular personal development to extend her knowledge and skills. For example, she and her assistants have attended behaviour management training to help promote children's personal, social and emotional development consistently.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always consider how the organisation of some resources may not fully support children to make choices for themselves and follow their interests. The childminder does not fully support children's developing skills, for example, by giving children time to think and respond to the questions asked of them.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

enhance the organisation of resources further to strengthen how children make choices to follow their interests develop questioning skills further to help ensure children are consistently given time to gather their thoughts and answer questions.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and the quality of the childminder's and her assistants' interaction with the children and their daily play and care routines. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including policies and procedures and children's records. The inspector spoke with a child's parent on the phone and noted the comments made. The inspector discussed the self-evaluation process with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder monitors the ongoing suitability of her assistants and the quality of their care and teaching skills successfully. They all have a good understanding of their role and responsibility to promote children's welfare and well- being. This includes the procedures to follow if there are any concerns about a child. The childminder carries out effective risk assessments to help ensure the safety and suitability of the environment, resources and equipment that children use. The childminder regularly evaluates her practice and sets targets for improvement to support children's learning and development. Parents comment that they are incredibly happy with the care and teaching that the childminder provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her childcare experience and teaching skills to help promote all areas of children's learning and to challenge them in their play. Children benefit from a balance of planned activities and those that children choose for themselves. For example, they enjoy touching, feeling and exploring different materials and resources, so the childminder provides a tray containing a wide variety of items at floor level to meet this favourite activity. The childminder and her assistants make the most of opportunities to involve themselves in children's play and help them learn new skills. For example, children are well supported as they learn about numbers as they play with different activities. The childminder keeps parents informed of their children's progress to help involve them in their learning. Children enjoy listening to a story and can see and touch characters from the book, using small world figures, adding to their experience.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are well behaved and develop positive attitudes towards others. The childminder helps them learn to share, take turns and to think about one another's feelings. Children's physical development and understanding of healthy lifestyles are given good attention. Children enjoy outdoor play and learn about their world and their local environment, for example, during walks and trips on buses and trains. They also explore natural life as they help to care for the childminder's pet guinea pigs. Children are encouraged to be independent, and the younger children are beginning to manage their own personal needs, for instance, putting their own coats and boots on.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development from the start. They develop good speaking and listening skills and play well together, engaging and enjoying the activities provided. Children develop good skills for their future learning and the next stage in their lives.
