This provision is good
The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and demonstrates a strong commitment to continuing to develop all aspects of her provision. She strives to keep children safe and is committed to ensuring all children reach their full learning potential. The childminder regularly completes observations and assessments of the children. She has a good understanding of what children know, understand and can do and successfully uses the information to identify the next steps in their learning. The childminder plans a good range of interesting experiences, which helps to engage children and builds on their interests. She places a strong emphasis on supporting children's emerging communication and language skills. Children are happy in their surroundings and show pleasure in their play and interactions with the childminder. They demonstrate that they feel safe and emotionally secure in this friendly environment.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder does not always give children time to think about how to respond to the questions they are asked. The childminder does not always make the most of her close links with parents to gather additional information about children's development at home.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of the childminder's teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed joint observations with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and household members. The inspector took account of the views of parents from documentation completed by them.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The experienced childminder is enthusiastic and professional in her approach to her childminding. Since the last inspection, the childminder has worked hard to obtain a relevant childcare qualification. This has supported the childminder to develop her knowledge and skills, which is reflected in the good quality of the care and learning provided. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder successfully minimises potential hazards in her home and implements secure procedures to keep children safe on outings. She understands the signs of abuse and knows how to quickly meet the children's needs in the event of a child protection concern. This is combined with a clear and detailed policy and procedure to follow if she ever has a concern.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder enthusiastically joins in the children's play. Young children are skilfully introduced to new vocabulary and are actively encouraged to repeat sounds associated to their play. They enthusiastically moo like a cow and say choo-choo as they manoeuvre trains around the track. Children are consistently praised for their achievements, supporting them to persevere. Younger children develop their physical skills as they manipulate and press feathers and pasta into dough. They have fun and pretend the feathers represent candles on a birthday cake. Children are developing their early mark- making skills as they use paint on the painting easel. Older children are supported by the childminder to write, name and sound letters of the alphabet. They learn about how things change over time during planting activities and use their creative skills to decorate glass jars.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are well cared for in this warm and welcoming family environment. They are effectively supported by the childminder to manage their feelings and to behave appropriately. They are taught to respect others, share and take their turn. Older children help to determine boundaries and rules. Children's awareness of their local community is effectively developed by the childminder. They visit the library, enjoy nature walks and feed the ducks. Children develop relationships and social skills during visits to toddler groups. They learn to respect each other's differences and customs during special celebrations, such as Diwali, Easter and St. George's Day.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in relation to their starting points. They are working comfortably within the typical range of development for their age. Children demonstrate a positive attitude towards their learning. They are sociable, develop their communication skills and are encouraged to be independent. These skills successfully prepare children for their eventual move on to school.
