The childminder has very high expectations of what children can do based on meticulous assessments of their learning. The childminder recognises how important children's spoken language skills are for future learning. She engages them in conversations and asks questions to encourage them to express their thoughts, ideas and opinions. She continually encourages all children to use speech to communicate. Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at those parts of the childminder's home used for the care of children. The inspector looked at children's records and a range of other documentation, including policies and risk assessments. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults living in the home.

Child protection procedures are robust and well embedded. The childminder completes regular training within this area and clearly explains what she would do if she had concerns for a child's welfare. The childminder ensures all those living in the household or caring for children are safe and suitable. She monitors her assistant's interactions with children and provides regular meetings on how to build on and improve their practice. Children develop a real appreciation of books. Older children sit with younger children and read to them. The childminder offers children story time every day. She encourages them to sound out words familiar to them. She helps them make their own books about outings they have been on. Children have excellent mathematical skills. They count, add up numbers, name shapes and begin to use positional language as they play. The childminder makes the most of every opportunity to enhance learning. When it begins to snow, she quickly takes the children outdoors to investigate. Children talk about the patterns the snow makes on the ground and how it melted. They know that when the rain clouds get cold they turn to snow. These experiences enhance children's understanding of the world.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children, even those new to the setting, are exceptionally confident and display high levels of emotional well-being and independence. The child-centred environment allows them to roam freely from one space to another. Children play together harmoniously and they behave exceptionally well. Children's physical well-being is exceptionally well promoted. They have daily access to the outdoors, where they climb, explore water funnels, build, use wheeled toys and run. An excellent range of meals is offered to children, supporting their good health. They help the childminder tend to fruit and vegetables in the garden. These are then picked and eaten at the setting. Children learn about what is dangerous and how to keep themselves safe. They handle knives carefully and safely when preparing their fruit for snack time.
p.3
