They regularly check children's achievements to make sure that they make good progress from their starting points.  Leaders and staff make sure that children are well behaved. Good quality support helps children to develop good personal skills. Staff fully support and encourage children to have good manners and respect others.  Staff help children to improve their learning. For example, staff encouraged children to improve their counting skills and find the number of spots on large ladybird cards.  Productive partnerships enable parents to be fully involved in their children's learning and contribute to their good progress. p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 adapt language, questioning and explanation to ensure the youngest children are clear about what is required of them  provide more opportunities to encourage children to use their own ideas in their play and develop their problem-solving skills.

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed several different activities in each of the rooms, and listened carefully to interactions between children and staff to see the impact these have on children's learning.  The inspector sampled many of the documents that the nursery leaders use for the service. These included information about safeguarding procedures.  The inspector sampled records of children's past achievements and looked at information about their progress.  The inspector spoke to the manager and the nominated person about the service at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector spoke to some parents to obtain their views about the service.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

All staff regularly update their safeguarding knowledge and know what to do if they are concerned about a child in their care. Safeguarding is effective. Self-evaluation is developing well and ensures that staff promote children's learning successfully. Leaders and staff have high aspirations for children and monitor their progress well. Leaders ensure that staff performance is good. They regularly monitor staff practice and provide good quality training for all staff. For example, partnership with a nearby nursery has enabled staff to share their expertise and develop consistently good teaching. Staff regularly share children's development with their parents, ensuring strong partnerships.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff promotes children's communication and language well through discussions, rhymes and stories. Children enjoy sharing books with adults and talking to them about the pictures. For example, children interact well with staff as they use reference books to identify different insects. Staff make sure that children have good opportunities to improve their physical skills in the spacious outdoor area. Staff observe children and regularly record their achievements, using this information to plan activities that interest them. Children learn about their local area through activities such as outings and the strong partnerships with local schools.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff take good care of children. They keep them safe and ensure their well-being effectively. For example, staff show children how to use knives safely as they put butter on their crackers at snack time. Staff promote children's good behaviour through quiet and calm approaches. They are supportive to children across the nursery and are good role models. Children learn good social skills. Staff encourage children to learn about diversity. For example, they celebrate a wide range of festivals to broaden their experiences of other cultures. Children share well with others. For example, children willingly take turns when riding on the bikes outside.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. They are independent and confident. For example, they tidy up their toys and fetch their own plates for snack time. Children develop good mathematical skills. They learn to count and to identify different shapes and colours. They successfully develop their early reading skills. Children are well prepared for school.
