This provision is good
The childminder is very welcoming. She makes her home inviting and an attractive place for children to play and rest. Children's emotional well-being is well supported; they settle quickly and are happy and content. Children play with good quality toys and resources that are interesting, and which provide them with stimulation and challenge to support their learning. Children make good progress and develop skills ready for their future learning. Children make independent choices about their play. They are confident to try new experiences and to follow their own ideas. The childminder's positive interaction helps to enhance children's language development. The childminder ensures her home is safe. She is effective in raising children's awareness of keeping themselves safe, both inside her home and outside. The childminder takes positive steps to evaluate her effectiveness and make improvements. For example, she attends training sessions and meets with other
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder's use of observations and planning is not precise enough to support children to consistently make the best possible progress they can. Occasionally the childminder does not simplify activities to support children at their individual levels of understanding.

Inspection activities
The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and observed the quality of teaching during activities. The inspector had discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as safeguarding procedures, self- evaluation and children's progress reports. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder manages her provision well and has a good understanding of how children learn as they develop. She uses her experience and training effectively to plan interesting activities that capture children's curiosity. The childminder increases her personal effectiveness through attendance at courses. For example, recent training has helped the childminder to effectively assess and check the progress of children between the ages of two and three years. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has updated her policies to reflect changes in guidance and legislation. She shares these with parents to ensure they are aware of her responsibility to protect children. Strong partnerships with parents significantly help the consistency of care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gains good information from parents to establish children's starting points and uses these to build on what children already know. The childminder makes good use of her wide selection of resources and activities to promote all areas of children's learning and development. Children are confident in investigating resources and activities. The childminder encourages children's developing communication and language skills. For example, she uses stories, rhymes and songs to help infants learn new words. Older children identify colours through play and enjoy counting in everyday situations. The childminder involves parents in her assessments of children's progress. She plans effectively for the children's individual learning needs.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder's good settling-in arrangements help to prepare children emotionally for their move to new environments. She carefully monitors their progress and gradually introduces them to adults and children at the groups they will be attending in their local community. Children behave very well. The childminder makes good use of the knowledge she has gained though training to help children understand their own feelings and manage their own behaviour even more effectively. The childminder supports children's good health, for example, by following their dietary needs as well as meeting their need to be active outdoors. Children's safety is a priority. The childminder's home is safe and secure, and she makes sure to teach children safety awareness when outdoors.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are working within the range of development typical for their age. They become inquisitive learners. The childminder uses regular routines to underpin learning in the children's physical skills, communication and language. Children enjoy sharing stories and making creative use of resources, which helps them develop their ideas and thinking well. They are confident and learn to be independent, preparing them well for school.
