p.3

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate

Arrangements for safeguarding are not effective. The childminder has failed to notify Ofsted about a significant incident regarding a member of the household. The childminder has a poor understanding of child protection procedures. Her knowledge of child protection is weak. The childminder does not have pubic liability insurance or a current paediatric first-aid certificate. The childminder does not keep a register of children's daily attendance. The childminder does not reflect on her provision or identify areas for improvement. She has failed to recognise significant weaknesses in her knowledge and practice. In addition, she has not met the actions raised at her previous inspection. The childminder has no plans for her professional development. This means that the quality of care and learning is poor, and weak practice is not identified or addressed. Relationships with parents are open and friendly. However, the childminder does not find out or share

p.4

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate

information with parents about their children's achievements or progress. In addition, she has not established partnership working with other settings that children attend. This means children do not benefit from a shared approach to their care and learning.

p.4

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is inadequate

The quality of teaching is poor and the childminder lacks knowledge and understanding of the learning and development requirements. She is well qualified. However, this does not have a positive impact on children's learning. The childminder does not interact with the children effectively or provide purposeful play opportunities that extend their learning. She is not clear about the purpose or learning objective of activities. Therefore, children are not challenged and do not make good progress. Children occupy themselves most of the time and choose what they want to play with. For example, older children prepare a game outside and younger children join in with enthusiasm. The childminder sits and talks to the children and promotes their conversation skills as they play. However, she does not provide challenge that helps extend their play.

p.4

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate

Children's welfare is not assured because the childminder does not have a thorough knowledge of safeguarding issues. Nevertheless, other aspects of children's well-being are suitably promoted. The childminder has a positive approach to managing children's behaviour. Children consider the needs of their friends. They follow simple rules and are given consistent boundaries. The childminder encourages children's social skills in relation to using manners and developing their independence. The childminder encourages children to learn about healthy lifestyles. Children take part in daily exercise and enjoy healthy snacks. They follow hygiene routines. The childminder helps teach the children road safety and how to keep themselves safe. She assists children with their move to school.

p.4

Outcomes for children are inadequate

Children's welfare and learning are not supported sufficiently as there are significant weaknesses in the childminder's knowledge and practice. Activities provided do not sufficiently help children to further develop their skills. Children are not making enough progress from their starting points and they are not effectively prepared for school.
