This provision is good
The childminder is particularly good at supporting children's communication and language development. She uses various methods successfully to help children with their speech and language. The childminder provides a safe, welcoming and well-resourced environment where children can move freely, choosing which activities they would like to play with. Children make good progress in all areas of their learning. The childminder builds good relationships with parents. She uses a wide variety of methods to communicate with them and they value her calm and patient manner. Parents report that their children thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder. The childminder is committed to her continuous professional development and has made good progress in developing her provision even further since her last inspection. For example, the children's learning records are very thorough and detailed.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always make full use of the outdoor area to support children who learn better in the outdoor environment. The childminder is not always consistent in her approach to liaising with other early years settings that children attend, to support a cohesive approach to their learning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

The inspector reviewed a sample of documentation, including self-evaluation documents and children's learning records. The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times. The inspector spoke to parents and used written information provided by them to gain their views about the provision.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of child protection issues, keeping children safe through providing a safe and secure environment and by using detailed risk assessments. The childminder has clear procedures to follow in the event of a concern about a child's welfare. She has effective processes in place to monitor and evaluate the provision, and to enable her to make sure that the educational programmes cover all areas of learning. The childminder works closely with other childminders to share good practice, particularly with regard to safeguarding. She is committed to training and uses the information gained to improve outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides good support to children to help them progress with their learning, for example through effective questioning. She plans and provides a wide range of learning opportunities tailored to children's individual needs and interests. The childminder completes thorough and detailed observations and assessments, and provides parents with a regular report about their children's progress. She encourages parents to share their children's achievements at home and offers them ideas about how they can support their children's learning further.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children feel safe and secure. They build good relationships with the childminder and the other children, and thoroughly enjoy snuggling up to the childminder to listen to engaging stories. The childminder also encourages the children to borrow the books so they can enjoy them with their parents. Children behave well; they know and understand the childminder's boundaries and expectations. They cooperate well as they play, sharing toys and taking turns. Children learn about the wider world through activities and outings in the community, for example to the local woods. They benefit from healthy, nutritious snacks and follow good hygiene routines, such as washing their hands before eating.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and are well prepared for the next stage in their learning or the move to school. They are confident and independent learners. They concentrate for long periods, for example as they fill various containers with compost. Children thoroughly enjoy using their imagination. For example, as they play with the dolls' house, they talk about what they need for the bedroom.
