This provision is good

 The well-qualified childminder has a good knowledge of how children learn and develop. She provides a range of learning experiences that helps children to make progress in all areas of their learning.  The childminder provides children with an excellent range of resources. The indoor and outdoor environments are purposefully arranged to make them inviting to children.  Children make good progress in learning from their initial starting points. The childminder pays close attention to what captures children's interests and ensures that the activities that she provides link to them. Children develop good concentration during play-based activities.  The childminder ensures a two-way flow of communication between herself and parents. She provides parents with information to support children's learning at home. The childminder often seeks the views of parents. She uses this information from them to inform her assessments of where children are in their learning.

p.1

This provision is good

 Children are safe and secure in the childminder's care. She develops close bonds with them. The childminder regularly cuddles and comforts younger children. Parents recognise and value how happy their children are to spend time with the childminder.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not aim her teaching with specific focus to support children to make even faster progress in their learning  The childminder does not always fully extend children's knowledge of how and why things happen to help them to think and make links in their learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 focus teaching even more specifically to enable children to make even faster progress in their learning  provide children with more opportunities to understand how and why things happen, to further develop their thinking skills and make links in their learning.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder completes regular training and keeps her knowledge up to date. She knows what to do if she has concerns about a child in her care. The childminder seeks the views of parents and children to help her to identify areas for improvement to her service. She gives parents questionnaires to complete. She also sends them newsletters to keep them informed about any changes or relevant information that they need to know. In response to parental feedback, the childminder now completes a daily diary for parents, giving them detailed information about their child's day. The childminder shares her well-defined policies with parents. She updates them when she gains new knowledge or information to keep them in line with current good practice. The childminder keeps comprehensive and well-organised records about the children she looks after.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has completed a level 3 qualification since her previous inspection. She has enhanced her knowledge and understanding of how children learn and develop. The childminder uses her good knowledge to plan appropriate activities that children enjoy. She regularly assesses children to ensure that they are developing well. The childminder talks to children as they play and learn. She helps them to develop new vocabulary. For example, she sings songs that are about children's individual interests, such as their favourite animals. Activities promote children's early literacy skills. The childminder talks to children about sounds and letters and she encourages them to make marks and think about writing. She takes children on regular trips, for example, to playgroups, where they play and socialise with others.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy, safe and secure in the childminder's care. They confidently explore the stimulating indoor and outdoor environment. The childminder works closely with parents. She regularly shares information with them and talks about their children's care. If the childminder has a concern about the development of a child she discusses it with parents and helps them to seek further support and advice where appropriate. The childminder makes regular checks around her home to make sure that the areas that she uses for children are safe. She closely supervises babies and young children as they play. Children have regular opportunities to develop their large-muscle skills. Children relish time in the childminder's garden where they energetically explore the wide range of toys, including a climbing frame, balls and wheeled toys. They climb and move confidently as they play, supported by the enthusiastic childminder.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their starting points in learning. Where children are behind in their learning the childminder works with parents to identify how to support them. Children confidently engage in the activities and are keen to join in. They gain good physical control in their movements. Children develop good social skills and enjoy playing alongside each other.
