This provision is good
The childminder gets to know children well; she offers them a wide range of interesting and challenging activities. All children make good progress. Parents comment on how well their children settle and are impressed with the activities and experiences on offer. They feel that the childminder regularly consults them, which helps to support their children's learning at home. The childminder is an effective role model in supporting children's understanding of good values. For example, she gives children clear messages on how to behave, and how to appreciate the differences and similarities between themselves and others. The childminder promotes children's independence in all that they do. For instance, she encourages them to be fully involved in taking care of their own personal needs. The childminder gathers the views of parents and uses this information to evaluate her provision thoroughly. She reflects on what works well and actions any areas for
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses opportunities to enhance further children's understanding of mathematical language, in particular their understanding of size, shape and describing objects. The childminder does not always extend opportunities for children to explore their interest in music and dance fully, particularly so they learn to move in different ways.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

continue to use all opportunities to extend older children's use of mathematical language, with particular regard to describing different sizes, shapes and objects increase opportunities for children to explore their interest in music and movement further.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's play and learning during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's developmental records, the childminder's policies and procedures, and self-evaluation form. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder and discussed the findings. The inspector took account of parents' views through their feedback comments made available during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder's processes for monitoring children's learning and development are effective. She promotes good partnerships with parents and others who work with children, to complement and focus on children's next steps in learning. The childminder is enthusiastic and keen to develop her practice. She keeps herself and her assistants up to date on childcare issues and ensures they access support, such as through training courses. For example, the childminder has completed training in promoting children's communication and language development, which has improved the way that she supports children's speaking skills. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of her procedures. She understands how to report any issues of concern, including sudden changes in children's behaviour or their welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her observations to understand how children learn, and she creates an environment which supports their learning needs. She makes good use of her assessments to plan activities, such as story sessions, to bring children together. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well. For example, she engages them in looking at picture books and talking about what they see, while introducing some new words. She creates opportunities for children to strengthen their hand muscle control, such as through exploring with play dough, to support their future writing skills. Children are physically active and make good use of all areas, for example, they move confidently from one environment to another.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder effectively builds children's self-awareness. She promotes their confidence and teaches them good manners. The childminder praises children for their good behaviour, which they proudly acknowledge, for example, on a behaviour chart. Children learn about appropriate risk taking, such as when using challenging equipment, and show an awareness of personal safety. The childminder promotes children's good health. For example, she offers freshly cooked meals and works with parents to meet children's dietary requirements. She provides a suitable provision for children to rest when tired, and children access fresh air and exercise regularly. The environment is safe and welcoming. The childminder prioritises children's safety at all times. She regularly assesses any risks and removes potential hazards to keep children safe.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children have fun while learning. They develop many necessary skills in preparation for school. For example, they learn how to play well together, take care of their own needs and talk confidently.
