Inspection activities
The inspector observed the children playing indoors and outdoors, and during their interactions with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder about her aims for the children's learning. They discussed how the childminder assesses their progress. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she works in partnership with parents and with others sharing the care of the children. The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation, which included the children's records. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she evaluates her provision and how she has developed her practice.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The childminder makes regular and accurate reviews of her practice and the children's learning. She is resourceful in implementing new projects to involve parents in their children's home learning, such as learning nursery rhymes together. The childminder maintains an exceptional partnership with other professionals. She meticulously follows suggested strategies, for example to promote developing speech, which help children catch up. The childminder is very keen to develop her skills through professional development. For example, she has considerably improved children's outdoor learning experiences since her registration. This has enhanced the ways in which the children learn about the wider world, and increased their eagerness to try new things. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent knowledge of child protection matters.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
This enthusiastic childminder has outstanding interaction skills. She provides excellent support when children lead their play and successfully motivates children through providing very stimulating adult-led activities. For example, when painting, children eagerly learnt how to use their hands to form the body of a butterfly. The childminder makes careful observations to assess the children's next steps in learning. She confidently plans these, and regularly shares children's progress with their parents and others sharing the care of the children, to take a consistent approach. The childminder encourages the children to try new things; for example, they eagerly smell leaves to identify herbs. However, sometimes the childminder misses the opportunity to prompt children's curiosity further, such as by encouraging them to make predictions.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder promotes equality and diversity extremely well. The children learn to respect each other and show consideration. For example, when playing with dolls, they explain that 'the baby is sleeping'. They benefit from exciting outdoor experiences which, for example, provide them with opportunities to play freely and build dens. They enjoy climbing trees, which supports how they make decisions about risk. Children develop a very strong sense of independence. For example, they are very keen to attempt their personal care from an early age. They are confidently aware of hygiene matters.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
The children are extremely well prepared for the next stages of their learning, including those learning English as an additional language. They are imaginative, inventive and enjoy exploring. Children use their counting skills competently, play cooperatively and show high levels of attention.
