This provision is good
Children enjoy their time with the childminder. She provides a welcoming and supportive environment and children have built close bonds with her. The childminder knows children very well. She successfully bases her activities on children's interests and abilities, identifying and planning for any gaps in children's learning. This helps them to make good progress in their learning. The childminder skilfully promotes children's awareness of mathematical ideas as they play. For example, children count and compare colours, shapes and the sizes of the towers they have built. Children develop good independence skills, confidently make choices and manage small tasks for themselves. They gain the skills needed for their move to school. The childminder reviews her provision in a range of ways. For example, she evaluates her activities and teaching methods to ensure that she is meeting children's needs.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder places a high priority on children's safety in all the environments they use. She helps children learn how to keep themselves safe in different situations well.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder misses opportunities to use children's curiosity to fully extend their learning. The childminder does not consistently use all opportunities to help children identify and use letter sounds.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke with the childminder and children during the inspection and took account of written feedback from parents. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the available resources. The inspector reviewed documentation, including children's development folders and the childminder's qualification certificates. The inspector viewed the areas used for childminding.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder successfully uses different methods to review and enhance her provision. For example, she involves parents in ideas for children's learning and gathers feedback from them and other professionals. She uses information effectively to help ensure her knowledge of children's learning and her practice are up to date. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder fully understands her role in safeguarding children. She has a good knowledge of the signs and symptoms when a child may be at risk of harm, and where to report these to.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are keen to learn and explore in the childminder's home. They confidently choose what to play with from the good range of resources available. The childminder skilfully supports children's communication development. For example, children excitedly use descriptive words to talk about the posters they make with their friends, which show how frogs develop and how plants grow. Children develop their early interest in books. For example, they happily recall events in their favourite stories and show their enjoyment as they join in with familiar phrases with the childminder. The childminder helps to further encourage their interest in different stories and types of books, such as through trips to the local library.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder successfully meets children's welfare needs. Children are happy as they play. The childminder teaches children about their local environment. For example, children visit different parks, fire stations and local shops and use the bus. The childminder provides daily outside play activities for children which help to promote their good health. For example, they have many opportunities to practise their developing physical skills with regular walks and using different play equipment. Children understand good hygiene routines. For example, they understand the importance of using soap when they wash their hands after using the toilet. The childminder gently encourages children's self-esteem. For example, children are proud of their achievements.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning. The childminder prepares them well with the skills they need for the next stage in their learning. For example, children enjoy counting as they play hide-and-seek and they are proud as they declare that they are writing numbers. Children are developing their concentration skills. The childminder provides activities which interest and engage them; for example, children learn to use scissors safely as they can make collage pictures.
