This provision is good

 The quality of teaching is good. Children make good progress and learn the skills they need to be ready for the next stage in their learning.  Children are settled and happy. They feel safe, secure and have close relationships with the childminder, which supports their emotional well-being.  The childminder has a good understanding of how to promote children's health and well-being. Children are learning the importance of a healthy diet and take part in lots of activities in the fresh air.  Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder involves parents fully in their children's learning and development, to ensure continuity in meeting children's learning and care needs.  The childminder is committed to her professional development. For example, she attends training and implements her new knowledge to raise outcomes for children.  The childminder uses self-evaluation well to reflect on the quality of her provision, and

to develop and implement ideas for future learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder misses opportunities to offer children a broader range of age- appropriate activities at times, to help them progress even further in their learning.  On occasion, the childminder does not give children enough time to solve problems and explore activities independently before offering assistance.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 continue to develop the range of activities, particularly to reflect children's varying ages and abilities, to enhance further their learning experience  offer younger children sufficient time to explore activities, so they learn to problem solve and become more independent in their learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder interacting with children.  The inspector viewed the areas of the home used by the children.  The inspector viewed the childminder's policies and relevant records.  The inspector viewed written comments from parents made available during the inspection.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder during various times throughout the visit.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is clear on the procedures to follow in the event of any concerns about children's safety and welfare. She completes regular risk assessments both inside and outdoors, to ensure children can play safely. She demonstrates a well-organised approach to her role and accurately maintains all required records. The childminder makes good use of self-evaluation to identify aspects of her practice to develop further. She has a range of detailed policies and procedures, which she shares with parents to make them aware of her practices when caring for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows what most children can do when they start and generally plans activities to extend their learning. She regularly observes children while they play to identify what they need to learn next. The childminder places a clear focus on supporting children's communication skills. For example, she uses signing to communicate with children and sings to them during activities. Additionally, she helps children to extend their language development, such as by repeating words so they hear and learn the correct way to say them. The childminder uses assessment to allow her to monitor and address any gaps in children's learning, including working with professionals and parents to meet developmental targets.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides children with a welcoming environment and effectively promotes their well-being. She praises them frequently and children are continually developing their confidence and self-esteem. Children clearly enjoy attending the setting and show they are emotionally secure. The childminder is caring and meets children's health and welfare needs well. She ensures children develop a good understanding of the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. For example, they visit the local gardening club and learn how plants grow. Babies enjoy physical challenges, such as rolling a ball to the childminder, which effectively develops their hand-to-eye coordination skills.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Babies and younger children are gaining confidence. For example, they are keen to explore their surroundings and learn new skills. Children are acquiring the skills and dispositions they need for their future learning, including their move to school.
