Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is exceedingly knowledgeable about child protection and the procedures to follow in case of concern about a child's welfare. She places a high emphasis on keeping children safe while enabling them to take controlled risks. The childminder has very effective methods to support her continued professional development. For example, she uses childcare publications and information from early years professionals to keep her knowledge up to date. The childminder's assistant attends relevant training and the childminder provides guidance to ensure their practice is consistent. The childminder involves parents and children in monitoring her provision. For example, she offers parents opportunities to attend a first-aid course at her home. Overall, the childminder builds very good relationships with other early years settings. However, she has identified this as an area that she intends to develop further.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder is highly skilled in observing and assessing children to help them make the best possible progress. Children respond extremely well to her enthusiasm and her calm approach. They feel confident to try new activities and develop their independence. For example, following encouragement from the childminder, they delight in acting out familiar stories when they go on walks in the woods. The childminder works closely with parents to gather information about children's achievements at home to enable her to effectively plan for each child.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children learn about healthy lifestyles and the benefit of exercise. For example, they excitedly talk about how their heart goes 'boom, boom' when they jump up and down on the trampoline. Children learn to respect and value others. The childminder is a positive role model and listens carefully when children are talking to her. She meets children's emotional development particularly well. Children feel valued and are confident to ask questions and seek support from the childminder in their play. For example, they enjoy looking at photos of themselves involved in various activities and gain a strong sense of belonging. Children practise how to keep themselves safe. For instance, when on walks in the community, they follow good road safety.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are exceptionally motivated learners. They show high levels of confidence, for example, as they build dough models and competently use a wide range of tools. Children are proud of their achievements and are keen to share their knowledge, for example, as they excitedly talk about the giraffe they have made. Children make outstanding progress and are prepared extremely well for school.
