p.1

This provision is good

 Staff are highly responsive to the individual interests of children. They develop strong bonds with children and provide a welcoming, caring and nurturing environment.  Staff establish good partnerships with parents. Information about children's care and learning is regularly shared to help promote the best positive outcomes for children.  The manager is ambitious and has a clear vision about how to improve and develop the nursery.  Staff have a secure knowledge of safeguarding procedures and are confident in promoting children's safety and emotional well-being.  Children are making good progress. They benefit from a stimulating learning environment where they build good relationships and are actively engaged and motivated in their play and learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Systems to enable staff to fully reflect on their practice and to raise teaching to a higher level are not yet fully in place.  Planning is not yet focused sharply enough in using current information from children's assessments and clearly identified next steps, to make it even more accurate and effective.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 sharpen the focus for the professional development of staff to raise teaching and practice to a higher level  build on the use of assessment information so that planning is even more focused on supporting rapid progress in children's learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector undertook a tour of the premises.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the manager.  The inspector held discussions with the manager and sampled relevant documentation, records, policies and procedures, such as the nursery's self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the nursery.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff fully understand the actions they need to take should they have any concerns about a child's welfare. The manager and staff are committed to providing children with good quality care and have high expectations of what the setting can achieve. The manager identifies areas for improvement and acts on these to help raise outcomes for children. For instance, the outdoor area has been painted in order to provide more opportunities for early writing. Staff are all qualified and supervision is undertaken regularly. Staff track the progress of each individual child and systems are in place to monitor children's achievements. Parents appreciate the warm, caring environment that the staff provide for their children and the detailed communication shared. They particularly enjoy being able to share their own observations on current learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff know all of the children well and are effective at helping to develop children's self- confidence. Staff promote children's language and communication skills particularly well as they talk about their play. Children listen carefully to songs and rhymes and join in with repeated phrases. Staff introduce and reinforce the names of the colours when playing outside, to help extend and support young children's vocabulary. Children enjoy daily opportunities to play outside where they move around freely and explore a wide range of resources. They delight in playing in the water and using their imagination in creative activities. Staff sit with children and support them as they ask purposeful questions. Staff make regular observations of children, which are detailed and provide a clear picture of their next steps in development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff have high expectations of all children and meet their individual needs with care and attention. Children of all ages actively seek out resources with independence. They are confident to explore their environment as they demonstrate their feelings of being safe and secure. Staff work closely with parents to help children settle when they start at the nursery. Care routines are agreed with parents and staff in the nursery follow each child's individual routine to support their emotional well-being. Staff recognise the uniqueness of each child and value their contributions. Staff provide an effective role model for children. Positive behaviour is promoted calmly and consistently and children's personal, social and emotional development are enhanced through meaningful praise and encouragement.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are making good progress across all areas of their learning and development. They acquire good social skills and children of different ages confidently interact and play alongside each other. Children are gaining the skills they need to be ready for school or the next stage of their learning. Staff are helping children to become successful learners. Children are happy, settled individuals who are motivated to learn in this welcoming nursery.
