This provision is good

 The childminder provides a secure and welcoming environment. Children freely explore their surroundings. They lead their own play and make independent choices.  The childminder provides regular opportunities to involve parents in their children's learning, for example, through daily discussions, texts and by sharing children's learning journals. This helps parents to be able to continue their children's learning at home.  The childminder supports children's independence skills well. For example, children prepare their own lunches and put on their own coats and shoes. Children benefit from the safe, caring and nurturing environment that the childminder provides.  Children are happy and enjoy their time with the childminder. They make good progress in their learning and are ready for their next stage in their development.  The childminder works effectively with other settings children attend. This helps to

support a consistent approach in meeting children's learning and care needs.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder monitors children's progress well overall, but is not always highly effective in precisely identifying and planning for each child's next stage in learning.  The childminder does not always make the most of opportunities to further develop children's knowledge and understanding of keeping themselves and others safe.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen the monitoring processes to plan more precisely for each child and help them make even further progress  increase opportunities to promote children's growing understanding of keeping themselves and others safe.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning and development.  The inspector viewed all the premises used for childminding.  The inspector viewed a range of documentation including suitability checks and children's records.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector spoke to children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of the signs that would cause her concern about a child's welfare and the processes to follow to help keep children safe from harm. She attends training to help improve her knowledge and skills. The childminder completes thorough risk assessments of her environment to enable children to play in safety. She uses the views of children, parents and other professionals to help evaluate her service and continuously improve her provision.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is clear about how to promote the learning and development of children in her care. She encourages their literacy development. For example, they learn that words carry meaning as she reads instructions on seed packets to them and children confidently write their names on sticks. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills well. For example, she engages children in meaningful conversations and asks appropriate questions to extend their learning. The childminder promotes children's mathematical development. For instance, she encourages them to share resources equally and encourages children to count during play. Children learn that their views are valued and important, and the childminder often seeks their opinions and ideas. Children are confident and develop good levels of self-esteem.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children form secure emotional attachments and positive relationships. Children behave very well. For instance, they are friendly towards each other and interact positively during their play. The childminder provides clear guidance and explanations to help children manage their own feelings. These are important skills they need for their future learning. The childminder supports children's understanding of healthy lifestyles. For example, she provides healthy options at mealtimes and daily opportunities to be physically active. The childminder provides opportunities for children to learn about each other's backgrounds and diversity. For example, they look at maps and read books about children around the world. Children learn to respect and value each other's differences.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. They count confidently, are keen learners, and maintain their focus in activities, such as planting seeds. Children are very polite and consistently use their good manners. They eagerly talk to adults about their families and experiences at home. Children are ready for their move to school.
