p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder has failed to complete a progress check for all children aged between two and three years. The childminder does not use self-evaluation effectively to ensure that all the legal requirements are met and to identify weaknesses in her practice. The childminder's partnerships with some of the other early years settings that children attend are not effective in enabling her to fully complement children's learning while they are in her care.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder forms caring bonds with the children. She provides a welcoming environment that is well resourced. Children feel safe, happy and secure in her care. The childminder provides children with adequate opportunities to experience fresh air and physical exercise. They go on regular outings to places, such as the local park, toddler groups and forests. The childminder supports children to discover the world around them. She teaches them about different cultures and ways of life. Children learn to appreciate each other's similarities and differences. The childminder completes thorough risk assessments and daily checks of her premises. She takes appropriate action to reduce or remove risks to children's safety.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage the provider must:

Due Date
complete a written progress check for all children aged between two and three years and share it with parents. 20/06/2016
p.2
Due Date
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
Due Date
strengthen self-evaluation, ensuring that all the legal requirements are met and any weakness are identified and swift action is taken to address them build on relationships with the other early years settings that children attend, in order to better complement and support children's learning to a higher level.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the indoor learning environment where children play and viewed all areas of the home used for childminding. The inspector observed a focused activity and evaluated the quality of teaching with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at children's records, planning and a range of other documentation, including policies, procedures and risk assessments. The inspector checked evidence of the qualifications of the childminder, her suitability and the suitability of other household members. The inspector took into account the views of parents expressed in written testimonials and she spoke to a small number of parents during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder's self-evaluation is not thorough enough to ensure that she identifies all weaknesses and any breaches of the legal requirements. She does seek the views of parents, children and other professionals to help inform her improvement plans. However, she has failed to identify that she is not completing statutory checks on children's development. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows the appropriate action to take if she has concerns about a child. She shares some information about children's care needs with the other early years settings they attend. However, she does not share information about children's progress in their learning and development to enable her to provide a higher level of consistency in their learning. The childminder attends mandatory training when it is due, including first aid and safeguarding.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder is well qualified. However, she has failed to carry out the required progress check for all children aged between two and three years. The childminder was not aware of her responsibility to complete the progress check for all children within this age range. Instead, she is only carrying out the progress check for those children who she knows have a visit with the health visitor. Therefore, she is not using the progress check to ensure she identifies gaps in learning for all children so she can provide the appropriate support. The childminder observes children and makes adequate assessments of what they can do. She uses this information to provide activities that are based around children's interests. The childminder forms positive partnerships with parents. She shares information about activities their children have taken part in and encourages them to contribute what they know their children are learning at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
As the childminder has failed to complete the progress check for all children aged between two and three years, she has not completed all required checks on their personal, social and emotional development. The childminder supports children's independence appropriately. Children know what is expected of them as the childminder gives them clear expectations for their behaviour. She encourages them to take turns and share. Children settle well in the childminder's care. She obtains information from parents about children's care needs and routines. This enables her to provide an environment that is comfortable and familiar to the children as soon as they start.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children make appropriate progress given their starting points and capabilities. They are generally well prepared for the next stage in their learning, including starting school. Assessment requires improvement to effectively pinpoint where children require help to make good, or better, progress. Children develop their knowledge of colours, numbers and shapes through enjoyable play activities. They are developing their ability to work as a team and use suitable manners and social skills.
