This provision is good
Teaching is good. The childminder interacts well with children to extend their learning through play. She provides a broad range of resources and equipment that covers all areas of learning and matches the interests of children in her care. Children make good progress in their learning. Children are well supported when they start in the setting. The childminder is flexible to meet the needs of children and their families, and this helps children to settle quickly. Children demonstrate close emotional attachments with the childminder. She shows real warmth for the children in her care as she cuddles them, responds to their requests and joins in their play. The childminder successfully engages parents in their children's learning. Parents receive information about new or exciting learning via an online programme. They are encouraged to add to this and to support their children's next steps in learning.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder meets the individual needs of children well. She provides children with a range of nutritious snacks and meals to promote a healthy diet. This helps to develop children's understanding of a healthy lifestyle. The childminder manages children's behaviour well. She reinforces consistent boundaries and supports children's understanding of simple rules using clear explanations.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not seek sufficiently detailed information from parents before children start, in order to help her to precisely identify children's starting points and plan promptly for their next steps in learning. The childminder has not considered fully the ways to help children to reflect on the similarities and differences of people, families and communities beyond their own.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held a meeting with the childminder and spoke with children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation and a selection of policies and procedures. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all household members over 16 years and checked the qualifications of the childminder. The inspector spoke to a small selection of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a comprehensive knowledge of signs and symptoms and what she should do if she has any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder thoroughly checks her premises and all the places they visit and takes appropriate action to minimise hazards to children. She monitors children's progress well. The childminder accesses professional development opportunities according to children's needs and addresses gaps in her knowledge and skills. She maintains good working relationships with parents, other providers and professionals. Her daily information sharing practices enable her to adapt her approach to ensure consistency for each child. Parents' comments are positive and show how highly they regard the childminder's professionalism and ongoing care for their children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good approach to children's learning and development. She observes children and assesses their progress. The childminder plays alongside children and talks to them about what they are doing. She uses a variety of strategies to promote speaking and listening skills, and children learn and apply the rules of conversation. Older children are encouraged to solve simple problems as they complete jigsaw puzzles. Children are motivated learners and enjoy their time exploring with the childminder. She makes activities, such as making musical instruments, interesting to children of different ages. Babies enjoy banging and shaking the instruments and squeal with delight as they hear the sounds. The childminder makes good use of resources to enrich activities for children, such as collecting eggs from the chicken coop. Children are currently watching the frogspawn in the pond as this changes into tadpoles. Parents are fully involved in their

child's learning as the childminder keeps them informed on a daily basis.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are very settled with the childminder. They are confident and gain independence as she involves them in making decisions and choices. Children receive lots of reassurance, praise and encouragement from the childminder. She establishes clear boundaries and has a positive approach to helping them understand what is expected. She promotes respect and role models respectful interactions with children. Children are encouraged to make healthy choices and the childminder uses effective strategies to help them develop independence. Younger children are encouraged to manage their own care needs. Children have regular opportunities to be active and engage in physical play, both in the childminder's garden and on trips to the local parks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. Older children learn about size as they place buttons into the bottles. They soon learn that the bigger buttons are too big. Babies get very excited as when held they kick a big ball with their feet. Older children know how to work the lift in the toy garage, in order to get the cars to the top. Children are very well supported across all areas of learning and develop the skills they need in readiness for their move on to school.
