This provision is good
The childminder builds on the skills that children learn at school. She encourages children to manage their own care needs and to make choices about what they would like to do. Children are supported to continue to make good progress. The childminder provides an inviting and caring environment where children form secure attachments with her and each other. Children show high levels of independence and cooperation. Children enjoy playing together in the garden. They play chasing games, use the trampoline and a variety of other equipment. This helps to promote their physical development and good health. The childminder understands her responsibility to safeguard children. She is well qualified and has continued to keep her ongoing training up to date by attending relevant events and courses. Older and younger children play well together and they develop strong friendships with each other. Their social skills are fostered as they are keen to share their opinions,
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder monitors her provision to help her to achieve good standards, she has not yet used strong enough methods of self-evaluation to enable her to achieve exemplary standards across the provision.

sharpen the process of self-evaluation and focus more precisely on identifying where practice can be strengthened even further.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the children engaged in a range of play experiences, both indoors and outside. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as, policies, risk assessments and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to members of the childminder's family, parents and children during the inspection and took account of their views. The inspector discussed the childminder's current procedure for monitoring and self- evaluation. The inspector viewed all areas of the childminder's home that are used for childcare purposes.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder understands her responsibility to meet the legal requirements. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of what to do if she has concerns about children's welfare and she continues to develop her understanding of wider safeguarding issues. Parents speak positively about the services that she provides and she is highly regarded by them. The childminder takes into account the views of parents and children and uses these to help her to develop or make changes to her provision. Records and documentation are suitably maintained and fundamental information about children is obtained from parents. The childminder has an established relationship with the local school that children attend. Information about children's time at school is exchanged and good partnership work promotes consistency in children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children benefit positively from the many different types of activities and experiences that they take part in when with the childminder. They confidently make choices about what they would like to do. The childminder plans activities to extend and build on the skills that children are learning at school. For example, children write letters to famous and important people and they borrow reading books to take home. The childminder is quick to provide reassurance and encouragement to younger children when they join in with group activities and games. Children enjoy card-matching games, which encourage turn taking and negotiation. The childminder reminds children about rules for safe play and they adapt their games taking this into account.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a safe and suitable environment for children to play and relax in after their day at school. Children show that they understand the daily routine as they wait patiently to go to the toilet and wash their hands when they arrive. Children enjoy the opportunities that they have to play and explore in the garden. The childminder encourages them to gain an understanding of the natural world as they look at and discuss the tadpoles that they find in the pond. The childminder knows all children well and they appear happy and settled. Their emotional well-being is well promoted. The childminder caters to each child's individual needs. Mealtimes are flexible so that children's and parents' wishes about what children eat are taken into account. Water is always available to drink and children help themselves when required. The childminder's home is suitably laid out so that children can sit quietly and read a book or relax as they wish.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children understand the rules and boundaries that have been introduced to promote their welfare and safety. They listen and follow instructions well and are well mannered and well behaved at all times.
