This provision is good
The manager has sought effective advice and used thorough systems of self-evaluation to make improvements to their provision and ensure good outcomes for children. Staff share strong relationships and provide good role models for children. They work together well as a team, deploying themselves effectively to meet children's care and learning needs. Staff have good partnerships with parents. They exchange regular information. Staff know the children really well and support parents in extending their children's learning at home. Staff make useful observations of children's development and assess their learning accurately. They plan well for each child's individual development. Children make good progress from their starting points. Staff are consistent in their management of children's behaviour. Children have a good understanding of the staff's expectations and their boundaries. For example, they know

to inform staff if a ball goes 'out of bounds' and do not retrieve it for themselves.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Staff sometimes miss opportunities for children to solve problems and think of solutions for themselves. For example, they give children answers too quickly. Staff do not make the most of opportunities to support younger children in practising their early writing skills.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and the quality of teaching indoors and outdoors. The inspector spoke with staff, parents and children, and took account of the pre- school's self-evaluation. The inspector held a meeting with the manager and carried out a joint observation. The inspector checked safeguarding information and the safety of the premises. The inspector sampled documentation, including policies and procedures, children's development records and planning.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. Staff communicate well to ensure they supervise all areas and keep the premises secure. They have made changes to the environment to help keep children safe. For example, they have an enclosed book area so children can read undisturbed and to limit the risk of an accident. Staff have a good understanding of their responsibilities and know what to do if they feel a child is at risk of harm. The manager carries out regular meetings to monitor staff practice and uses observations to improve the quality of teaching. Staff have good opportunities to extend their professional development and go on relevant training. For example, staff have improved children's outdoor learning opportunities following a workshop they attended. The manager monitors children's overall development effectively and works well with the special educational needs coordinator to help children catch up with their peers, if needed.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff identify their key children's next stages of development and know how to help them learn through engaging their interests and extending their play. Staff promote young children's physical development well. For example, they provide just enough support for them to get on and off a tricycle and manoeuvre around obstacles. They introduce mathematics throughout children's play and challenge more-able children. For example, children learn about pairs and how to count in groups of two. Most of the time staff use effective questioning to encourage children to express their thoughts and opinions. They extend children's vocabulary well, for example, engaging them in purposeful discussions.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Staff meet children's physical and emotional well-being effectively. Children settle quickly and clearly enjoy going to pre-school. Staff keep children actively engaged in the activities. Children share good relationships and older children demonstrate a strong understanding of working as a team and contributing ideas. Staff provide good role models to support children in developing a healthy lifestyle. For example, they encourage children to try nutritious foods and comment on how they now eat things they didn't use to like. Staff plan the environment well; for example, they include resources and words representing the children's different backgrounds.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in developing the skills they need for school. They are confident communicators and play well together. For example, they listen well to each other as they make up a game, follow the same subject and elaborate their ideas. Children develop good independence. For example, they wash their hands for snack time, set their own place and serve themselves.
