This provision is inadequate
The childminder has not kept her safeguarding knowledge up to date. She is unclear about safeguarding legislation and the possible signs of abuse. Consequently, children are not protected from all possible harm. Teaching is not good enough. The childminder does not have enough understanding of how children learn, or of what they need to learn next. Consequently, children do not make the progress that they should in her care. The childminder does not assess children's starting points or the progress they make accurately enough. Planning is not based on children's individual development and what they need to learn next. As a result, children are not challenged effectively to learn new things and make good progress. The childminder has overlooked breaches in requirements and weaknesses in practice. Since the last inspection, she has not evaluated the quality of her provision accurately enough, or taken sufficient action to improve the quality of her teaching.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Children have suitable opportunities to be physically active in the fresh air. For example, they play in the childminder's garden or visit local parks. Children build appropriate relationships with the childminder, in a welcoming environment. As a result, children feel secure and confident in their surroundings.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the Childcare Register the provider must:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities, both indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector took into account the written views of parents and carers provided on the day. The inspector sampled a range of documentation including attendance records, suitability checks, the self-assessment information and children's observation, assessment and planning records. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and spoke with children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective. Children's safety and welfare are compromised as the childminder has not kept her safeguarding knowledge up to date. The childminder was made aware that she has a poor understanding of the learning and development requirements at the last inspection. However, she has not taken effective action to address this. Therefore, the childminder's knowledge of how and what children need to learn remains poor. Some improvements have been made to the outdoor provision. A wider range of outdoor resources enables children to further explore, build, move and role play.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is inadequate
The quality of teaching has significant weaknesses. The childminder does not have enough understanding of what children need to learn and how she can help them. She does not know how to use her observations of children's achievements to accurately assess their starting points or progress. She does not identify or plan for their next steps in learning. Consequently, she does not plan effectively or provide challenging activities that promote children's learning. The childminder supervises the children and talks to them, but does not have any clear learning intentions for activities. The childminder shows some interest in what children like to do. She plays with them, but does not know enough about what children need to learn. Therefore, she does not challenge children as they play, in order to help them to make progress from their starting points.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
Children play with a suitable range of resources, both indoors and outdoors. This supports their natural curiosity and drive to play and learn. However, the childminder does not use their curiosity and interest to build further on their learning. Weaknesses in her teaching practice mean that children do not make consistently good progress in all aspects of their personal development. However, children are physically active as they play outdoors. They take part in routines that help them to develop an understanding of good hygiene. Risks to children are appropriately minimised. The childminder ensures all areas of the home are safe and suitable for them to use. The childminder encourages children's good behaviour. She gets to know children and their families well. Generally, appropriate information is shared with parents to ensure continuity for children's care.
p.3
Outcomes for children are inadequate
Children are not adequately prepared for school or for their next steps in learning. Teaching remains weak. It is not focused enough on children's individual needs. This results in activities being mundane and children becoming inactive and bored. Children are not fully safeguarded. There are breaches to legal requirements, which have a significant impact on children's safety and well-being.
