This provision is good
There are strong links with other settings that children attend. This supports the childminder to successfully plan for children's learning from the very beginning. The childminder attends training and analyses the effectiveness of this. Her programme of professional development is finely tuned and effective in bringing about ongoing improvement in her provision. The childminder uses story times to build on children's all-round knowledge and understanding. Children point out things that they recognise in pictures. The childminder effectively questions children to help to build on what they already know. Children help to choose and prepare their snack and meals. The childminder also provides real fruit and vegetables for children to use in their role play. Children smell, handle and talk about foods as they learn about healthy eating and making good choices. Children learn about similarities and differences in characteristics when looking at farm

animals. The childminder effectively and sensitively, talks about the difference in shape, size and colour of animals when children look at books and small-world figures.

It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasion, opportunities for young children to test out their developing skills in making marks and drawing are not as enticing when children choose to play indoors. The childminder does not always use children's own interests and role play games as a way to even further extend on their understanding of how they can meet their own personal needs.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities both indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector discussed a learning activity with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and children at suitable times. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and household members. The inspector read and took account of the written feedback provided by parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding about child protection issues. She attends extensive training and maintains her knowledge to effectively review her policies, procedures and practice. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is a highly qualified teacher who uses her skills to provide consistently good quality teaching experiences for children. The childminder successfully engages parents in their children's learning. They exchange information frequently and parents can readily support and extend on children's learning at home. The childminder works with other childminders to share good practice and to learn from each other to enhance her provision for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder creates an exciting environment for children to play in and displays their work on the walls. She helps children to recall their prior learning, such as visits to the local farm through looking at photographs. The childminder uses spontaneous opportunities to help extend on children's language skills and to broaden their vocabulary. When a bee flies into the conservatory where children are playing, she explains what attracts bees to colours and the name of where they live. Accurate assessment of children's starting points in learning enables the childminder to effectively review their progress and to plan challenging activities. Children enjoy finding out about how things work, such as toy washing machines. They learn about technology and the natural world as activities are diverse and tactile.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder appreciates that young children need to follow their own routines. Children make multiple choices over the course of the day and help with small tasks. The childminder helps children to understand about promoting good health. Together, they talk about handwashing after handling animals and before eating to keep germs away. Children learn how to look after the childminder's pets and are caring and considerate to their feelings. Children develop close relationships with the childminder and are at ease and confident in her care. Parents praise how quickly children settle and are reassured that their children are so happy in the childminder's care.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are eager to play and able to make choices about what they play with. They make good progress and particularly become confident in mathematics; they count out toys and pieces of puzzles as they play. Children develop their physical skills and practise picking up small chick peas and fastening the buttons on dolls' clothing. They are developing all the necessary skills that are needed for their future learning and eventually, for starting school.
