This has adversely affected the quality of her provision.  The quality of teaching is weak. She has not informed Ofsted of changes in her circumstances. This is an offence.  The childminder does not support children's communication and language skills effectively during everyday activities.

p.3

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate

Safeguarding is not effective. The childminder does not have a satisfactory understanding of how to protect children and the regulations she must comply with as a registered childminder. She lacks understanding of child protection procedures, which impacts on her ability to safeguard children in her care. The childminder has failed to inform Ofsted of a change in the people living at her premises. In addition, she has not ensured that suitability checks are carried out for her assistants. She has not sought permission from parents to leave children in the care of assistants. The childminder recognises weaknesses in her practice and understands the changes needed.

p.4

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is inadequate

The childminder does not assess children's progress, so does not know what they are capable of. She lacks information to enable her to plan effectively in order to help children make progress in their learning. Some activities are mundane, such as when children sit for long periods of time playing with resources which do not provide them with challenge or stimulation. The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to ask children questions to encourage them to explain their ideas and thoughts. Furthermore, when children express their interest and curiosity she fails to respond. Poor quality teaching limits opportunities for children to develop the necessary skills for their move on to school.

p.4

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate

Children’s safety is at risk because the childminder does not manage hazards effectively. For example she identified, but did not manage, the risk of a broken pet cage resulting in injury to children. The lack of interesting activities limits opportunities for children to develop confidence and independence. The childminder does not keep accurate records relating to children’s attendance, accidents or injuries. The childminder is kind and caring towards the children and they are settled in her care. They behave well, share toys and develop social skills as they play positively together. Parents say that the childminder helps their children to settle and that they are happy with the service the she provides.

p.4

Outcomes for children are inadequate

The oversights in complying with the safeguarding and welfare requirements mean that children are not safe. Weaknesses in planning mean children become bored and lose interest in the activities the childminder provides. Children’s communication and language skills are limited as the childminder does not encourage them to talk about what they are doing.
