This provision is good
The childminder provides an exciting and stimulating environment for children, both indoors and outdoors. Children have a wide range of interesting and challenging learning experiences and make good progress from their initial starting points. The childminder is a very good role model. She sensitively encourages children to share, take turns and cooperate. Children behave very well, play happily and show tolerance, kindness and respect for others. The childminder promotes children's physical development and social skills successfully. Children enjoy plenty of outdoor play and challenging physical activities. They regularly meet children from local groups and they go on regular outings to places of interest. The childminder is committed to providing children with good-quality care and education. She regularly reflects on her practice to help develop and implement ideas for further improvement that will have the most impact on children's outcomes.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder directs some activities to an extent which, at times, does not enable children to follow their own interests and ideas. The childminder does not always share ongoing information with parents to help them complement and consolidate children's learning at home and in the setting.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

extend the opportunities for children to take a lead during some activities and direct their own learning according to their interests build on the existing good partnerships with parents to share more information about children's learning experiences at home and in the setting.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including children's information and learning records, attendance registers, safeguarding procedures, qualifications and training certificates, self-evaluation and a selection of policies and procedures. The inspector carried out an evaluation of teaching with the childminder following an activity. The inspector took account of the views of parents during the inspection from written comments that parents provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the action to take should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. Furthermore, she is vigilant and teaches children how to keep themselves safe. For example, children remind each other not to run and take managed risks as they negotiate steps outdoors. The childminder carefully monitors and tracks children's progress. Any identified gaps in their development are quickly addressed. The childminder is effective in further developing her professional knowledge. For example, she seeks out and attends regular training to help support the quality of her teaching and promote children's good outcomes. The childminder has developed effective partnerships with other settings to help share ideas and promote continuity in children's care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children well. She undertakes effective observations of children's learning and makes accurate assessments to help her plan for their individual needs. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills. For example, she repeats what children say, reinforcing the correct pronunciation of words and introducing new vocabulary such as 'recycle', 'evaporate' and 'compost'. Children are motivated to learn and happily practise their early writing skills. For example, they take great delight as they begin to identify and write letters of their name. Children develop good literacy skills. For example, they confidently join in stories, sing songs and move their bodies imaginatively to reflect the words. Children are imaginative in their play. For example, they retell and role play their favourite superhero characters.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's emotional well-being and sense of belonging well. For example, children are self-assured, happy and settled, and thoroughly enjoy the time they spend in her care. The childminder effectively supports children to develop their independence and self-care skills. For example, they are encouraged to choose their healthy snacks and meals, and wash their hands. The childminder teaches children about the diverse community they live in, the wider world and other people. Children are learning to value each other's differences and what makes everyone unique.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are acquiring the key skills needed for their future learning and for starting school. Children demonstrate their developing mathematical abilities. For example, they confidently sort objects, identify numbers, count and talk about shape, size and colours as they play. Children show enthusiasm in all of their activities and are motivated, curious and eager to learn.
