future move to nursery.  The childminder manages her provision very securely. This has continued to develop since the last inspection due to a continuous search for ways to improve children's care and learning through regular training updates and self-reflection.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Professional development opportunities are not targeted at developing areas of expertise to move towards delivering outstanding teaching and learning, particularly in the consistent use of the very best ways to promote early speaking skills.  There is scope to further improve the way that information gathered during the settling-in process is used, to develop a precise assessment of children's levels of development and help the childminder even more specifically target support right from the start.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 broaden continuous professional development opportunities and include ways to enhance knowledge of, and expertise in, using the very best ways to promote early speaking skills  make even better use of the information gathered from parents at the start and develop a more precise assessment of children's levels of development, to help specifically target areas that can be supported in order to promote rapid progress right from the start.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed an observation of a planned activity and discussed the childminder's evaluation with her.  The inspector held a meeting with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, such as training records, operational records and evidence of the suitability of household members.  The inspector took account of the views of parents using the childminder's own records.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder's operational procedures are very clear. She provides parents with comprehensive information which explains how she very safely operates her provision. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder routinely refreshes essential elements of her training and she keeps abreast of the most up-to-date issues around child protection. She strives to provide childcare of a very high standard and continually reflects and considers what can be improved even further. She uses her partnerships with other childminders effectively to share ideas and expertise. Since the last inspection the childminder has gained a relevant childcare qualification at level 3 and she has significantly enhanced the play environments for children, both inside and outside. The continual improvements she has made help her to secure good teaching and maintain consistently good provision for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses a wide range of good teaching techniques as she supports children's play. She provides children with interesting exploratory opportunities that ignite their curiosity to such an extent that they engage, persist and concentrate well from an early stage. The childminder uses her good knowledge of child development to adapt activities in ways which promote children's learning. On the day of inspection, the childminder provided a paint mixing activity which children eagerly investigated. They made marks and patterns using their fingers, while the childminder also introduced opportunities for them to recognise the names and select individual colours. The childminder makes good use of her very strong relationships with children to promote their communication. She makes the most of her vibrant play areas to support children to follow their own interests and think for themselves.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is very nurturing and responsive to the children. They show how safe they feel as they explore with confidence and play with creativity. The childminder promotes positive independent attitudes and behaviour. Children benefit significantly from her good modelling of how to play, care and learn happily together. Calm, consistent routines also contribute to children's good behaviour and self-care skills. Children have daily opportunities to be physically active. This includes some exciting opportunities to learn outdoors in the childminder's extremely well-equipped garden. The range of play opportunities that is provided to enable children to move and handle equipment, both small and large, helps them to develop refined physical skills. Good links with childminders and attendance at other groups effectively support children's social skills.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

The consistently good quality of teaching, the interesting resources and excellent relationships, all contribute to the good progress children make. Children develop keen and confident attitudes to learning. Their love of, and ability to use pens, paints and other creative materials helps to provide an early interest in making marks for a purpose. Children are happy in the setting and develop keen and confident attitudes to learning.
