This provision is good
Children are happy, well settled and feel secure in the care of the childminder. She ensures that they have opportunities to access a good range of toys and resources. The childminder is experienced and dedicated to meeting the changing needs of children. She actively engages with children and enthuses them to play and have fun. Children enjoy their time with the childminder and are eager to join in with activities on offer. The childminder is committed to continuing her professional development. She attends regular training and researches current good practice. This improves her ability to meet children's needs well. Effective partnerships have been established with parents. The childminder keeps them well informed about their children's care. Children's good health is promoted because the childminder has an effective approach to health and hygiene.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder shares information about children's care needs with staff at other settings they attend, she does not always obtain detailed information about children's learning, in order to complement this when children are in her care.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's play in the childminder's home and garden. The inspector accompanied the childminder as she collected children from school. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's records and a selection of policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is organised and efficient. She works effectively to review the range of activities and experiences provided. She ensures resources and equipment are based on children's interests and accurately match their stage of development. The childminder reflects on the quality of her provision. She is aware of her strengths and focuses on areas of development to drive improvements. She has good links with other childcare professionals to discuss and share good practice. Partnerships with parents are well established. This helps to ensure a consistent approach to meeting children's individual care and learning needs. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder places a high priority on keeping up to date with the latest guidance to help her to keep children safe. She has a good understanding of her duty to refer any concerns she may have regarding children in her care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is well qualified and uses her experience to plan and provide positive experiences for children. Children's speaking skills are developing well. The childminder engages children in conversation as she asks them about their day at school. Carefully planned activities help children to learn about simple science. For example, during a cooking activity the childminder prompts children to talk about what might happen to chocolate when it is heated. The childminder helps children to build further on their early literacy skills. Children enjoy drawing and writing with chalks outside. The childminder praises the children's efforts, which helps promote their self-esteem and confidence.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are supported well emotionally when they first start attending the provision. For example, the childminder gathers good quality information from parents about children's interests and abilities. This information is used well to maintain continuity for each child. There is a family atmosphere in the childminder's home. The childminder is enthusiastic, kind and caring. Children have formed strong bonds with the childminder and each other. Children take turns playing games and older children take care with younger children as they play. Children are very settled and behave well. They learn how to lead healthy lifestyles. The childminder provides a variety of balanced meals and snacks and talks to them about the food they eat. Children confidently explain that fruit is healthy and chocolate is an occasional treat. Children understand the need for good hygiene practices. For example, they routinely wash their hands before eating or joining in activities using
