This provision is good

 Warm and caring relationships exist between staff and children. Children in the early years age range have a key person who cares for them. They form secure attachments and are confident to explore the environment.  Partnerships between home and the care scheme are strong and parents praise the level of care that staff provide.  Children enjoy outdoor play and some say it is their favourite part of the session. They are given plentiful opportunities to exercise in the fresh air, which helps to promote their physical well-being.  The manager is a highly reflective practitioner and has a strong drive to improve. She has addressed the previous actions and recommendations effectively.  Children have fun at the care scheme. They play well together and make friendships across the age groups.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff do not recognise all opportunities to encourage children to attempt manageable tasks to fully develop their independence.  At times, activities and resources are not organised as effectively as possible. Children do not always find it easy to make space to fully engage in their chosen activity.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend the opportunities for children to complete small manageable tasks to promote their independence as well as possible  review the use of space and the organisation resources in the indoor environment so all children can fully engage in their chosen activity.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to the manager and staff at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector engaged with the children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector observed children's indoor play, as well as their meal and hygiene routines.  The inspector sampled various documents, including risk assessments, the self- evaluation form, and a range of policies and procedures.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. All staff have a good knowledge of how to protect children and the procedures to follow should they have a concern about their well-being. The manager shows the drive and commitment that are needed in order to make sustainable changes and developments to the services that are offered. Training, such as safeguarding, is accessed regularly by all staff. This contributes to keeping children safe and healthy. The manager regularly reflects and evaluates on her practice, taking into account the views of staff, children and parents. The strong relationships with the school and with children's parents help staff to understand children's needs and to promote continuity in their care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff are experienced in working with children and have a secure understanding of how to help them initiate their own play and relax after school. Children are motivated, occupied and interested in the activities and experiences provided. Children make choices in their play. For example, they have opportunities to join in team games, such as tennis, and enjoy plenty of physical exercise. Children can also choose to engage in imaginative role play or art activities. Children are happy and settled, and staff skilfully interact with them. They value children's comments and contributions, and children of all ages are relaxed, happy and engaged. Children are confident to share their views and listen well to the views of others. When necessary, they are able to follow staff instructions well.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children form positive relationships with staff. They are confident and show that they feel safe and secure. Staff listen and talk with children about their day at school and ask them about what they would like to do in the club. They provide children with opportunities to rest and relax or to be more active, such as when they play games outside. Children's good health is supported. For example, they enjoy healthy snacks after school and breakfast in the morning. Children's behaviour is good; they are kind, considerate and well-mannered. Staff remind children of behavioural expectations and praise their good efforts. Children's time in the care scheme provides them with good opportunities to further develop the skills and attitudes needed for their continued learning in school, and for future life.
