This provision is good

 Children are happy and settled. They behave well and are cooperative with others during their play, helping them build strong friendships.  The childminder has a good understanding of children's individual needs and promotes their emotional well-being effectively.  Children benefit from good opportunities to increase their physical skills as they play indoors and outdoors, and take part in activities, such as music and movement.  The childminder has a good understanding of how to promote children's learning and uses her knowledge well to offer children challenging and interesting play experiences. Children make good progress in their learning.  Children are developing good communication skills. The childminder's positive interaction provides good support for their developing language.  The childminder has a clear drive for the continuous development of her practice, which helps to improve the outcomes for the children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to involve parents and encourage them to share how they support their children's learning at home.  The childminder does not use the full opportunities to develop children's mathematical learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen the systems used to support and involve parents in children's learning and development  make full use of all opportunities to promote children's mathematical development and extend their learning experiences.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and interactions between the childminder and the children, and reviewed the play equipment and resources.  The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector looked at documentation, including a sample of children's records.  The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding.  The inspector looked at the systems used by the childminder to evaluate her provision and also looked at comments from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is clear about her role to keep children safe and secure. She constantly monitors the play areas and supervises children well to make sure they can move around freely and safely. The childminder has a positive attitude to the ongoing development of her childminding provision, reviewing her practice regularly. For example, she created a role-play area with more easily accessible equipment in the playroom and has noticed that children are now using resources more. The childminder has recently introduced new systems to help her to monitor the children's progress more effectively. This information is shared with the parents to keep them well-informed about their children's achievements. Parents speak positively about the childminder's provision and how she provides children with 'a good healthy diet'.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children enjoy their time at the childminder's setting. The childminder follows children's interests, providing enjoyable and stimulating play experiences that promote children's active learning. For example, children have fun using the various resources, indoors and outdoors, to help develop their early writing skills. The good balance of adult-led and child-initiated play activities provide children with a good level of challenge. For instance, younger children lead their own play as they explore outside, for example, by choosing a ball. The childminder encourages the children to throw and catch the ball to extend their learning. Children giggle with excitement when they catch it. The childminder acknowledges the children's achievements, which helps boost their confidence and self- esteem.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder interacts with children in a warm, caring manner and helps them to build secure attachments. Children show high levels of confidence as they make choices about their play activities, which helps promote their independent learning. For example, they enjoyed selecting their resources and playing alongside their friends in the play kitchen. Children listen and respond to adults well; for example, they eagerly help tidy away toys before going outside. Children have good relationships with each other. They are learning the importance to share with others, such as taking turns to throw the ball outside.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are happy and content. They play together well, and are keen to learn as they eagerly explore their surroundings and the play equipment. For example, children are fascinated to discover how to use a camera. They confidently pressed the buttons and proudly showed others the photograph they had taken. Children are gaining the essential skills they need to help prepare them for the future, and their move on to school.
