The childminder cleverly uses everyday experiences to inspire learning and successfully capture children's imaginations. This contributes significantly to the excellent progress all children make. Exceptional, detailed planning and assessment systems ensure children participate in purposeful, challenging activities, reflective of their interests. Children's progress is recorded in detailed learning journeys that clearly reflect children's starting points and achievements in all areas of learning. Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and evaluated these jointly with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's records, observation and assessment files and a selection of policies. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector took account of parents' views, through discussion and from the written documentation they had provided for the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualification and the suitability of all adults living in the home.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is vigilant about monitoring children's welfare and knows exactly what action to take if she has concerns about a child. She has attended a vast range of training courses and regularly exchanges examples of best practice with other childcare professionals. This enables her to constantly develop her wealth of knowledge and expertise. The childminder is constantly striving to improve her provision and has very high aspirations for children's achievement. She has implemented a thorough, reflective evaluation of the setting's strengths and areas for improvement in order to deliver and maintain a high-quality service.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder is a superb role model who listens to children and skilfully develops their language skills through meaningful conversations. She takes every opportunity to ask searching questions and introduce new vocabulary. Older children are encouraged to recall their prior learning of a challenging book and show that they remember the book well. Children pick out letter sounds and demonstrate a keenness to think of different words that begin with the same sound. Older children use letters well to identify more complex words, such as the letter E for episode and the letter P for precious, which shows their wide ranging vocabulary. Opportunities to develop calculating skills are excellent. Children enthusiastically hunt for numbers hidden outdoors and confidently match them to the corresponding numbers. Young children count spontaneously as they add one more strawberry, while older children describe and understand more complex mathematical

terms, such as half. The childminder has identified the potential to further enhance children's mathematical learning to include more complex shapes.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children share a very close relationship with the childminder. Her calm, caring and patient manner helps to create a superbly nurturing environment for children. Children's behaviour is exemplary. The childminder sensitively encourages them to share and be tolerant of each other, encouraging the formation of meaningful friendships. Children are learning to take responsibility for their own safety by practising fire drills and using tools and equipment that challenge their competence. Children enjoy extremely nutritious meals and snacks and have plenty of opportunities to be physically active.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
All children are making rapid progress in relation to their starting points. They are highly motivated and develop an exceptionally positive attitude to learning. Children play with focus and concentration. They demonstrate a love of books, recognising familiar characters and the structure of a story. Older children become rapidly aware that writing conveys meaning and they respond well to opportunities to practice writing their name. Children are increasingly independent and take responsibility for their personal care well. This contributes towards them being exceptionally well prepared for the next stage in their learning and their move on to school.
