The childminder plans effectively for children's future learning needs to ensure they make the best possible progress.  Children are very happy and enjoy their time at the welcoming setting. The childminder provides a relaxed, fun and homely environment where children feel emotionally safe and secure.  Children's behaviour is excellent. The childminder is a very good role model. She speaks respectfully to children and boosts their confidence with praise and kind words. Children learn to consider each other's needs through their play and interactions.  Parents speak very highly of the childminder and appreciate the service provided for their children in the unique setting. They comment that she is very approachable and they feel confident that their children are comfortable, safe and happy in her care.

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder has a comprehensive range policies and procedures to promote children's health, well-being and safety. She very successfully monitors her provision. This helps her to make effective improvements to ensure the quality of care, teaching and learning is maintained to a very good level.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always encourage parents to share information about their child's learning and development at home.  The childminder does not always obtain enough information from parents about children's starting points to help her plan their learning fully from the start.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide more opportunities for all parents to share what they know about their children's learning at home, so that this information can be used to enhance the planning of activities and experiences for their learning  build on the range of information gained from parents about children's starting points from the outset to further support their ongoing learning and development.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has an extremely clear understanding of her role and responsibility to keep children safe. She is fully aware of her responsibility to contact relevant agencies should she have any concerns. The childminder is well qualified and has a very good level of training and qualifications. She keeps abreast of changes and up to date with new legislation to further support children's safety and well-being. The childminder provides a unique service for parents and children. This includes a wraparound service for children attending the pre-school where she works and the before- and after-school provision. This valuable and well-established link with school helps her support children as they move on to their next phase in learning. As a result, the childminder knows the learning needs of children well. She monitors children's progress closely and addresses any emerging gaps in their learning very successfully.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children are very confident and comfortable in the childminder's care and benefit positively from their early years experience. Children's learning is enhanced through the childminder's meaningful conversations and well-considered questions as they play. Children have good opportunities to explore and make their own play and learning choices. She gives them good support to find their own way of doing things and successfully builds on their learning while they are having fun. Learning is threaded very effectively through play and links well with their activities at the pre-school. Children talk confidently about what they enjoy doing, such as playing board games together and writing and drawing. Mathematical development is supported successfully as children practise their counting skills and complete puzzles to support their critical thinking. They enjoy using the 'magic spy' glass to find hidden mysteries in the puzzle.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children's well-being, health and physical development are promoted successfully. They have good opportunities to spend time outdoors. They walk to and from school each day and spend time in the local park. Children learn about keeping themselves safe and the childminder talks to them about road safety while on outings. The childminder is well organised, caring and attentive. She knows the children very well and all of them are made to feel special. Children show a kind and caring ethos. Older children play very well with the younger children, helping them out with a tricky puzzle and including them in games. Children learn about the wider world and enjoy taking part in a variety of festivals and celebrations. The childminder has very positive relationships with parents. They are kept well informed about their children's care and progress.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are encouraged to be independent, make choices about their play and manage their own personal needs well. They are confident and enthusiastic learners. All children develop good literacy and mathematical skills and make good progress in readiness for future learning. Children are provided with very good support to help them prepare emotionally for their move to school.
