This provision is good

 Children make good progress relative to their starting points. Accurate assessment of their learning reflects children's abilities well, and shows how staff build on these when planning for future learning, to close any gaps. Communication between staff is extremely good, and they use team meetings well to share information about children's learning objectives.  Children are confident and have good self-esteem. They develop warm and affectionate relationships with staff, and children show through their behaviour that they feel emotionally secure.  Staff develop good relationships with other professionals involved in supporting individual children. The strong partnership approach to planning helps all children to achieve, including those with special educational needs.  The provider and management team are highly committed to continuous improvement through rigorous self-evaluation. They have made significant changes since the

previous inspection to improve outcomes for children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 There are fewer opportunities for children to make marks and practise their early writing skills.  Staff support children well to wash their hands during routines, but miss opportunities to extend their knowledge of good hygiene during some activities.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 extend opportunities for children to make marks and practise their early writing skills  further develop children's understanding of good hygiene during activities.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed staff and children engaged in learning activities indoors and outdoors.  The inspector conducted a joint observation of a planned activity with the manager.  The inspector talked to managers, staff, parents and children.  The inspector reviewed processes for monitoring children's progress in learning.  The inspector sampled records that the provider is required to keep to support children's welfare.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The management team focuses very well on staff development and team building to improve the quality of teaching. As a result, staff are enthusiastic and confident. The management team monitors staff well to ensure they effectively use the skills they gain from training. This has improved how staff manage children's challenging behaviour, to consistently help them learn to recognise and talk about their feelings. Safeguarding is effective. The management team and staff have a very good understanding of how to safeguard children, and all attend training. They have a thorough knowledge of safeguarding procedures, and use these very well to help protect children from harm.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff plan a very good variety of interesting activities that challenge individual children well. For example, having read a story about a rainbow, children were keen to make their own. Staff used their very good communication skills to encourage children to remember the colours of the rainbow and select corresponding paints and tissue paper. Staff used discussions extremely effectively to encourage children to explore what they know. For example, children talked about rainbows appearing when it is 'sunny and rainy at the same time'. They counted how many colours they had used and which they needed to add. Staff have organised the learning environment well, indoors and outside, to make resources more inviting to children. For example, the baby room is organised so that children not yet standing or walking can easily see and access what is available, which encourages them to explore and investigate independently.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children who are learning English as an additional language receive good staff support. Staff's strong relationships with parents result in effective planning to develop their children's communication skills in the nursery and at home. Children are well behaved. They show a good understanding of fair play and sharing. For example, children playing on the trampoline automatically used the timer so everyone had a turn. Children enjoy being active and enthusiastically play ball games. Children take pride in carrying out tasks. For example, those who helped staff prepare for snack time made sure there was sufficient fruit, and checked to ensure all children had something to eat.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children of all ages and abilities, including those who need extra help, receive good support in preparation for their next stage in learning. They are confident learners and manage change well, for example, when they move from one age group to the next within the nursery. Children develop good independence and have the social skills they need to support them during such times. Children are motivated and successful learners.
