Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors.  The inspector spoke to the childminder, her co-childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector checked documents relating to the suitability and qualifications of the childminder and her assistant, and sampled documentation, including safeguarding procedures and children's records.  The inspector spoke to parents to obtain their views. She read written feedback from parents.  The inspector read the childminder's self-evaluation document and examined how she evaluates her provision and drives improvements.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder is highly reflective and makes superb use of evaluation to identify and implement areas for development. For example, she used additional funding to provide children with a camera to encourage their communication and technological skills. The childminder actively seeks to extend her excellent skills and knowledge to benefit children. For example, she attended training to improve her teaching and deepen her understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Nevertheless, the childminder identifies a strong desire to embrace additional professional development opportunities to enhance children's imagination skills further. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is highly confident of what to do should she have any concerns about a child.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder provides children with a wide range of extremely engaging activities. For example, children made their own 'singing board' with their favourite nursery songs and explored rhythms and sounds while participating in a group singing session. Children smiled with glee as they banged the drums and moved to the beat of different musical instruments. The childminder tracks children's progress accurately and shares this with parents and other settings children attend to provide consistency in children's care and learning. Parents are highly complimentary of the service they receive and report that the childminder and her team are 'brilliant.' The childminder supports children's language skills exceptionally well. For example, she gives children ample time to think and respond, and speaks very clearly to them.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder encourages children's healthy lifestyles extremely well. For example, children benefit greatly from lots of well-supervised and high quality outdoor play in the garden. Children had a wonderful time planning and making their own map, and navigating their way around with toy cars and other vehicles. The childminder has high expectations of children and encourages them to develop high levels of independence. For example, they nominate a child to be a 'monitor of the day' to help with handing out snacks and leading the cookery sessions. Children's behaviour is superb. They play cooperatively, share and take turns, and show superb manners.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are extremely happy and secure in this highly inspiring environment. They remain engaged and highly motivated during activities. They are curious, active and confident learners. For example, they enjoyed making their own musical shaker, choosing different arts and crafts materials. All children gain important skills to prepare them for their future learning.
