This provision is good

 The childminder has a positive attitude to developing her practice. For example, she attends training and completes her own research to extend her skills.  The childminder uses her knowledge of the children to build on their achievements. Children make good progress and develop the skills to be ready for the next stage in their learning.  Children have daily opportunities to play outside and enjoy being physically active in the fresh air. For example, the childminder makes good use of her garden and plans to take children to other local amenities, such as parks and woodlands.  Children have strong attachments to the childminder. They are content in her care, and enjoy cuddles and praise which supports their emotional well-being.  The childminder organises her home to enable children to lead their own play and choose resources for themselves. For example, resources are stored at children's height

which allows them to select what they want to play with independently.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not fully developed her partnerships with parents to involve them fully in her self-evaluation.  The childminder does not consistently provide a wide range of opportunities for young children to develop their creativity.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 strengthen partnerships with parents to involve them further in the self-evaluation process  develop further the range of opportunities for children to be creative.

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed interactions between the childminder and children during a play session.  The inspector viewed a range of documentation, including children's developmental records, and policies and procedures.  The inspector discussed aspects of practice with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector viewed all areas of the home used for childminding and the toys and resources available.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of protecting children and knows how to record and report any concerns about their welfare or safety. The childminder monitors her practice on a daily basis and keeps up to date with current guidance and changes in childcare practice. For example, she attends training courses regularly to develop her knowledge. The childminder is fully aware of her responsibilities to work with other professionals and the importance of developing a consistent approach to children's care and learning. The childminder shares information with parents regularly. For example, she keeps them informed about their children's achievements and the next steps in their learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder works with parents to establish what children know and can do before they start. She observes children in play and recognises their achievements and interests. The childminder plans experiences and resources to support children to develop and practise new skills. For example, she provides resources to support children as they develop their physical skills and take their first steps. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills well. She provides ideal opportunities for developing early conversations. For example, she continually chats to the children and gives simple names and descriptions to objects used in play.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy and settled. The childminder works closely with parents to meet children's individual care needs and follow established routines. This helps to support children's emotional well-being effectively. Children behave well. The childminder helps them to learn from an early age to respect others, share toys and take turns. She provides opportunities for children to develop an awareness of the differences between themselves and others. For example, the childminder provides a range of resources and plans to research how to celebrate different festivals during the year. She has a clear understanding of her role in providing a safe and healthy environment where children can thrive.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are interested and motivated. For example, they enjoy exploring baskets full of household objects, using their senses to look at and work out what each object does. Children consistently develop and practise their skills. For example, they listen to new words in order to extend their early communication development. Children make good progress in relation to their starting points and learn a wide range of skills to support the next steps in their learning.
