This provision is good
The childminder uses her knowledge and experience of children's learning to plan a range of activities that motivate and engage children's play. Children make consistently good progress. The childminder has a good knowledge about how to promote children's welfare. She provides children with a safe and secure environment in which to play and learn. The childminder keeps a close check on the progress that children make, and shares children's key achievements with parents regularly to promote learning at home effectively. Outcomes for children are good. The childminder is kind and caring, and children settle happily into her welcoming home. Children build secure relationships with the childminder, which supports their emotional well-being. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder is a positive role model and teaches children how to value and respect the needs of others well.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has begun to establish relationships with other settings that children attend. However, she does not consistently share information about their learning and development to help her plan for their future progress. The childminder has not fully considered how to organise her resources in a way that allows children to make independent choices, to develop their interests further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further
strengthen opportunities to share children's learning and development with other settings they attend, to make planning for children's learning even better review how toys and resources are stored, so that children can always independently choose what they want to use.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector looked at the areas of the premises that are used for childminding and observed children engaged in a variety of learning experiences. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children, at appropriate times, during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents, provided in writing, on the day of the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder, a selection of children's records and safeguarding policies, and discussed her self-evaluation process.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge about how to keep children safe. She knows what action she would take if she had concerns about the welfare of a child. The childminder is committed to providing a good-quality care and learning environment. She keeps her practice up to date through accessing training and sharing information with other childminders and professionals. She seeks the views of parents and children to guide improvement and uses her self-evaluation effectively to identify areas of future progress. The childminder has established good relationships with parents, who value the good-quality care and learning she provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder works closely with parents to gain a good range of information when children first start. Children settle quickly and happily, and are keen to play and learn. The childminder uses her individual knowledge of children to plan activities that engage children well. She is particularly successful at building children's communication and language skills, through good-quality teaching. For example, children's speaking skills develop well as the childminder reads stories and encourages children to practise new words. The childminder uses good opportunities to develop children's thinking skills. For instance, children learn how they can mix red and white paint to create the colour pink.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides children with a warm and welcoming home. She uses her good relationships with parents to follow home routines that ensure children settle happily. Children are confident and play cooperatively as they happily take turns and share, learning good play routines. Children benefit from activities that promote their good physical skills. For example, they play in the childminder's garden and develop good coordination skills as they learn to climb the steps safely when making their way to the slide. Children enjoy a range of healthy snacks and the childminder uses good opportunities to teach children about healthy routines. For instance, children learn how to grow, harvest and cook fruit and vegetables, which they use in cooking activities, with the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They are enthusiastic learners, as they explore their environment and develop good self-confidence. They develop good self- care skills; for instance, they are able to attend to their own personal needs well. Children acquire the skills they need for their next stage in learning. For example, they develop good counting skills, learn about letters and sounds, and practise writing, in preparation for their move to school.
