This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
Although staff are well qualified, supervisions, relevant training and professional development for staff have not yet taken place to help tackle underperformance swiftly and improve personal effectiveness. Planning, assessment and monitoring arrangements are inconsistent. The activities staff plan to support children's learning are not sufficiently targeted to meet all children's individual needs. Staff miss opportunities to develop children's early mathematical skills in everyday play. The organisation of some activities during the day does not ensure that all children remain fully engaged and able to enjoy the activities.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The newly appointed manager has identified areas for development through a swift self-evaluation. She is introducing new systems for staff supervision, training and professional development and she has revised policies and procedures. This has a positive impact on the welfare of the children. Staff spend time making sure that all children settle well. Children build secure relationships with each other and with the warm, caring staff team. This helps to support children's personal development and their emotional and physical well-being. Staff share children's learning experiences with parents so they know what their children enjoy each day and the routines they follow. Parents hold the nursery in high regard and comment positively about the spacious and secure environment.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the daycare manager. The inspector held a meeting with the daycare manager and provider. She looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of staff working in the daycare provision. The inspector spoke to a small selection of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The manager and staff have worked hard recently to improve facilities. The newly appointed manager is making changes to improve practice. This includes plans to introduce new planning, observation and assessments, as these are currently weak. This will help staff to effectively plan children's next steps and monitor their overall progress in learning and development. Supervisions have not been offered to staff to help the manager monitor their ongoing suitability and to help identify additional support and training opportunities. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff are able to identify the possible signs of abuse or neglect and understand the correct reporting procedures. Robust recruitment and induction are in place for new staff and all staff are suitably vetted. Students and apprentices are monitored at all times and are not left on their own with children. The provider and manager understand their responsibilities

regarding the welfare requirements and what they need to keep Ofsted informed about. Sleeping children are monitored appropriately and all exits from the building are easily accessible in case of any emergencies.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
Staff plan a variety of activities for children based on their interests and needs. Children generally enjoy activities and respond well to staff. However, there are times when activities are not well organised and children are not fully engaged as they wait for staff to be ready. There are also missed opportunities for children to learn about numbers. For example, when children are involved in setting the table for snack they are not encouraged to count how many children they are setting it for. Staff engage children appropriately during children's chosen activities. Staff talk to children as they play, introducing words such as big and little to develop children's understanding of size. Staff support children's communication and language development. They repeat words that children say to help them learn how to say them correctly.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Staff consistently provide gentle reminders for children to be kind to others, share and work together. This helps them to learn about the expectations for behaviour and they are enthusiastic when helping to tidy away toys. Children gain independence skills and learn how to lead healthy lifestyles. Healthy and nutritious meals are freshly prepared at the provision. The outdoor play area offers children inspiring activities that promote their physical development and understanding of the world. There are carefully considered arrangements in place to support children as they move rooms and to support children equally well as they make the transition to school.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Although children make steady progress, they are not yet supported to make the best possible progress in their learning and development. Children learn the basic skills they need to prepare them for the next stage in their education. However, monitoring systems are not fully established to ensure any gaps in children's progress are quickly identified and addressed.
