This provision is good

 The staff provide children with a variety of stimulating and challenging activities that motivate them to learn. All children, including those who are learning English as an additional language and those who have special educational needs, make good progress from their starting points.  Children learn to respect one another and the environment. They play cooperatively and behave very well.  Children build strong relationships with the caring staff. They feel safe and secure in their care and regularly invite them into their play.  Partnerships with parents and other agencies are good. The regular sharing of information helps to provide continuity in children's learning.  The manager and provider regularly reflect on the provision. They gain parents' and children's views to help make changes and to maintain good outcomes for children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the staff miss opportunities to pose challenging questions or add explanations that stretch children's thinking further and encourage them to solve problems for themselves.  Children do not always have opportunities to learn about differences among people, to gain a greater awareness of, and respect for, diversity.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 take every opportunity to pose challenging questions or add explanations that stretch children's thinking and encourage them to solve problems for themselves  increase opportunities for children to develop their awareness of differences between themselves and others, to support them to gain an even deeper understanding and respect for diversity.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector had a tour of the setting.  The inspector observed children and staff during play and carried out a joint observation with the manager.  The inspector spoke with parents, children and staff, to gain their views.  The inspector examined a sample of children's records, policies and other documents.  The inspector held a meeting with the manager and provider, and discussed the self- evaluation process.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. Staff have a secure understanding of local safeguarding procedures to follow to protect children's welfare. They complete regular risk assessments to help ensure children are kept safe. Recruitment is robust. Staff monitor children's progress effectively. They share their findings with parents and help to involve them in their children's learning. The manager supports staff with their ongoing professional development. For example, she provides regular coaching and ensures they attend relevant training to increase their knowledge and develop their teaching practice. Staff work with local schools and prepare children well for the move to school.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The well-qualified staff know children well. They make accurate assessments to plan effectively for children's individual needs, and share children's achievements and next steps in learning with parents. Children develop an interest in books and enjoy practising their early drawing and writing skills. Staff introduce early mathematical ideas and language into everyday activities and play. For instance, they involve children in games where they look for numbers, and invite them to count and recognise shapes as they set the table. Children have opportunities to use a range of technology and they develop their imaginative skills well. Staff use a variety of strategies, such as visual picture cards and gestures, to help support children's understanding and communication skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Settling-in procedures are good and staff support children's emotional well-being effectively. For example, staff work closely with parents to gain information about children's care and learning needs to help plan for children from the outset. Children gain a good awareness of keeping themselves safe. For instance, during imaginative play, staff remind children how ovens are hot and to be careful. Children gain confidence as they make choices in their play from the stimulating range of resources. They develop good hygiene practices and eat healthy foods. Children have daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise, which supports their physical well-being effectively.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their starting points. Younger children develop confidence in their abilities and so are ready to learn. Older children develop good independence. For example, they help to prepare snacks and hang up their coats by themselves. Children develop a good awareness of literacy and mathematics. They have opportunities to learn about different religions and cultures as staff help them to acknowledge different festivals and explore some resources. Children gain important skills that prepare them well for the next stage in learning and school.
