This provision is good

 The childminder is successful in identifying her strengths and areas she can improve. Parents are asked about their views on the service the childminder provides. She uses this information to improve outcomes for children and their families.  The childminder is warm and caring towards the children in her care. Their emotional security is enhanced through individual settling-in procedures that meet their needs and their parents' wishes.  Children have lots of opportunities to use their home language in their play and learning. The childminder successfully introduces words in French and English and encourages the children to repeat them.  The childminder has developed good relationships with parents. She shares her knowledge of what their children know and can do. She also makes regular suggestions about how they can support their children's learning in their home environment.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Sometimes, the childminder does not build on young children's interests to extend their growing mathematical awareness.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 introduce young children to numbers and counting words to promote their early mathematical development.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities in the childminder's home and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's training certificates and evidence of the suitability of adults living in the childminder's home.  The inspector took account of the written views of parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Since her last inspection, the childminder has increased her understanding of how to evaluate her practice. She has attended training and developed methods to effectively identify how she can improve children's safety. For example, she is presently accessing high-visibility safety vests for children to wear while on outings. Safeguarding is effective. Children are supervised at all times by the childminder, who ensures she stays in close proximity to them. Parents are very happy with the service. They describe the childminder as very professional. They especially appreciate how she creates activities that their children thoroughly enjoy.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder demonstrates a good understanding of child development. She successfully organises activities she knows the children will enjoy and helps to progress their current stage of development. The childminder effectively supports communication, language and literacy skills, knowing exactly when to intervene to extend children's learning. One example of this is when she introduces very young children to farm animals, she does so in French and English. She shows children a picture of the animal she is naming with the written word underneath. The childminder sings with the children as they play and enthusiastically responds to their first words and sounds.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are very happy in the childminder's care. They readily accept her affection towards them and like to sit on her knee as they play. Children settle well on arrival and are keen to access the broad range of experiences on offer. Resources are stored so that children are able to choose and select for themselves. The childminder provides the children with food that is well balanced and nutritional. She encourages them to try foods and fresh fruits they are less familiar with, such as pears. The childminder organises her home so that toddlers have good amounts of space to safely practise their skills in becoming mobile. The childminder helps children to feel good about themselves. She praises them for their achievements. One example of this is when the childminder tells the children they are super for copying an animal sound she makes.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

The childminder effectively tracks children's learning. She identifies where they are progressing well and where they may need additional support. Children are learning key skills for future learning and in readiness for the move on to pre-school and school. They are confident, motivated and inquisitive learners who demonstrate their perseverance and attention to tasks.
