This provision is good
The childminder has a secure understanding of how children develop and supports their play and learning well. Children take part in a wide range of planned and spontaneous activities. They make good progress and are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, such as nursery or school. The childminder sets clear and consistent boundaries for children's behaviour. Children learn to value and respect each other's similarities and differences and to negotiate the use of toys and equipment. Their behaviour is in line with their age and stage of development. Children are very happy and settled and build strong attachments with the childminder. She provides a caring environment for all children and ensures their individual needs are effectively met. The childminder regularly evaluates her provision using views from parents and children. She accurately identifies her strengths and areas for further development. The

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and the planning documentation. The inspector observed a planned activity and jointly evaluated this with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all household members and of the childminder's qualifications. She also looked at the childminder's self-evaluation form and discussed her improvement plan. The inspector asked the childminder questions about her practice at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector took account of the written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is well qualified. She completes relevant training to improve her teaching skills and keeps herself well informed of new guidance. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about keeping children safe from harm and knows how to report a concern about a child in her care. She has a sound understanding of how to provide a safe environment for children. Risk assessments are thorough in identifying and minimising hazards. The childminder makes sure that her assistant has completed mandatory training and has a secure understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. This helps to ensure there is a collaborative and consistent approach to children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder skilfully observes children and makes detailed assessments of their learning. She uses this information effectively to plan interesting activities and learning experiences. The childminder talks confidently about where children are in their learning and what she needs to do to support their continuing progress. The childminder places a strong focus on promoting children's language and communication skills. Children thoroughly enjoy listening to stories and engage in conversations about the pictures they see. The childminder is committed to working with parents to help to ensure continuity of care and learning for children. She gives parents an accurate record of their child's capabilities and collects ongoing information about what children are learning at home. Parents report that their children are very happy, settled and making good progress while in the childminder's care.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has a good range of resources and equipment that offer children opportunities to develop their imagination and ideas. Children's social skills are well promoted. For example, the childminder takes children out regularly to mix with children of their own age. Children develop good independence in their personal care and enjoy doing things, such as washing their own hands before eating, for themselves. The childminder supports children's good health effectively. Children enjoy fresh air daily and eat healthy meals. The childminder offers appropriate praise as she recognises children's efforts and achievements. This enables them to develop their self-esteem.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make better than typical progress from their starting points. They benefit from challenging experiences and learn key skills that help them be well prepared for school and their future learning. Children build their confidence in using and understanding language. They make their needs known and follow simple instructions well. Children enjoy listening to nursery rhymes and happily join in with their favourite songs. They develop good hand-to-eye coordination as, for example, they scoop barley into digger trucks.
