This provision is good
Children are settled and confident. They communicate well, sharing what they want to do, and are confident when helping to care for the childminder's pet dog and rabbits. The childminder plans interesting activities and outings that support children's learning well. She observes the children's developing skills effectively to provide activities that build on their next steps in learning. Children receive good support to count and recognise colours, for example, when preparing food for the rabbits. Children make good progress in their social and emotional development. The childminder works effectively with parents to support their children's confidence and sense of belonging, ensuring children settle with ease into her care. Children understand the importance of good hygiene. They know that they need to wash their hands after being outside or handling animals, for example. The childminder monitors and evaluates her practice well. She involves parents and her

assistant to help identify areas to improve and develop, which ensures that she makes effective changes to practice.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always successfully adapt all planned activities to accommodate the learning needs of the younger children. There are not enough opportunities for children to choose from a wide range of resources to learn independently and follow their own ideas.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed interactions between the childminder and the children. The inspector talked to the children and parents, and looked at parents' written feedback. The inspector talked to the childminder at convenient times during the inspection. The inspector sampled documents, including self-evaluation, certificates, risk assessments, policies, and assessments of children's progress.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder supports her assistant well and ensures that she has the necessary skills and experience to meet young children's needs effectively. They work in a good partnership to provide varied and enriching experiences for the children. The childminder assesses risk carefully to keep children safe, for example, on the frequent trips to the beach, zoo, library, and outdoor play areas. She attends regular training to improve her knowledge and practice, for example, to support children's emotional well-being. She works well with other settings that children attend to share information about children's learning needs and progress. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant are clear on procedures to follow to keep children safe.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistant support children well to engage enthusiastically in their learning; for example, discovering how they can make patterns in dough. They accurately identify any gaps in learning to plan activities that ensure children catch up quickly. The childminder provides challenge effectively through questioning. For example, when children found a slug while exploring in the garden, she engaged them in discussions about its texture and antennae. The childminder models language well in conversations about what the children are doing.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave well. They know how to take turns and use equipment safely, for example, when using the outdoor slide. They play together well and older ones show kindness to the younger ones. Children understand the childminder's expectations and a few simple rules, for example, taking off their shoes and not running indoors, to help keep safe. The childminder is a good role model and supports children well to learn respect and tolerance. She supports them successfully to form positive relationships with others. Children have strong bonds with the childminder. She supports parents sensitively and effectively with all aspects of children's development, for example, toilet training and weaning children off dummies to help improve their speech and language development.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points, especially in their language and communication. They learn to share resources and develop friendships. Children enjoy practising their early writing skills. They develop good physical skills; climbing, walking, running and handling very small objects. The range of activities and children's experiences prepare them well for the next stage of learning and their future education.
