This provision is good
The childminder is vigilant about children's safety and security and gives priority to risk assessments. This enables children to freely explore the environment safely. Children are self-assured and happy. They develop strong affectionate bonds with the childminder who is kind and responsive to their needs. Her good practice helps to provide children with the emotional security required to explore and learn successfully. Teaching is good. The childminder interacts well with children to extend their learning through play. She helps children to solve simple problems and provides sensitive guidance, without doing things for them. Planning, observation and assessment of children's learning are accurate and clearly identify the next steps in their learning. These make a positive contribution to children's overall progress.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is not fully successful in gathering ongoing information from parents about their child's learning at home. The childminder does not provide enough opportunities for children to enjoy sensory experiences.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector toured the areas of the home used for childminding. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including evidence of the childminder's qualifications, Disclosure and Barring Service checks for the childminder and people in the household over 16 years of age. She also looked at a selection of policies and procedures, including the safeguarding and children's learning records. The inspector talked to the childminder and children throughout the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has attended safeguarding training. This has supported her in knowing what procedures to follow, in order to protect and keep children safe from harm. The childminder is committed to developing her practice through further training. She considers the views of parents and children when identifying areas for improvement in her service. The childminder carefully monitors children's progress to identify any gaps in their development. These are shared with parents to continue children's learning at home. The childminder has well established partnerships with other settings, such as schools that children attend, to help provide continuity in their care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder tailors the settling-in process to suit each individual child. She uses these sessions to begin to build up a picture of each child. The childminder makes early assessments alongside parents and together, they identify what children know and can do. The childminder then revisits this information as children settle in. This system helps to show the progress children make from their starting points and involves parents immediately. The childminder uses good teaching strategies to support children's learning. She effectively asks them lots of good questions during their play. This helps to develop children's communication and language skills well. The childminder demonstrates and models activities, encouraging and motivating children's engagement. For example, she directs younger children to the bricks, showing them how to build and as they follow, she counts with them. This helps introduce children to early numeracy and develop hand-to-

eye coordination as they place one brick on top of another.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children form extremely close attachments with the childminder. She is warm and caring in her approach. The childminder knows the children well. From an early age, they begin to develop their independence, for example, they identify their own drinking cup as well as feeding themselves at snack time. The childminder ensures that children are fully supported to develop good health and hygiene practices. Children's behaviour shows that they feel happy and safe with the childminder. Their social skills are enhanced as they form strong friendships with adults and other children at local toddler groups. Children have opportunities to be physically active, both in and out of the setting.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder supports children to be confident learners and prepares them with the skills they need in readiness for school. Children regularly go to local groups where they socialise with other children. Children learn the importance of keeping themselves healthy. They follow good hygiene routines and spend lots of time being active outdoors. Children develop confidence, independence and make good progress in all areas of learning.
