This provision is good

 The management team has worked hard with the staff to address the actions and recommendations raised at the last inspection. They use their planning processes well to support children's good and continued progress effectively.  The nursery is bright, warm and welcoming. The organisation of the indoor areas supports children to make their own choices in play and promote their independence well.  Children settle quickly and develop positive attachments with familiar staff, who know them well. Through ongoing information sharing with parents, staff effectively promote children's learning needs and support them to feel safe and secure. Children are confident and become increasingly independent in managing their needs.  Staff make good use of questioning, for example, to encourage children's thought processes and communication skills further.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff do not work effectively with all early years providers that children attend, to enable them to promote a consistent approach in meeting children's care and learning needs.  Staff miss opportunities for children to hear and see their home languages as they play and explore.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop stronger links with all early years providers that children attend, to fully share information about children's learning needs  extend opportunities for children to see and hear the languages they use at home.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors.  The inspector undertook a joint observation with the deputy manager.  The inspector took into account parents' views.  The inspector held discussions with the management team, staff and children.  The inspector viewed a sample of documentation, including policies, staff and children's records, and accident and medication records.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The management team and staff have a clear understanding of child protection issues and the procedures to follow should they have concerns about the children. All staff have a good awareness of how to keep children safe. The management team works well with others to help make changes to practice and develop staff skills. This has led to a consistent approach in how well staff promote children's learning needs and plan challenging activities. Monitoring and staff support encourages them to share their ideas and skills. Secure self-evaluation works well to identify areas to improve, such as rearranging resources and space in the baby room for them to be mobile and develop their physical skills. The management team has identified ongoing areas to develop, including children's outdoor play and their literacy and mathematical skills.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff monitor gaps in children's learning effectively. They provide challenges and adapt planning well to support children's learning and follow their interests. For example, older children have fun developing their imaginative play using large cardboard boxes. Children access resources from the craft area to decorate and make into boats. Staff effectively develop children's ideas. For example, they invite children to make small paper boats to sail in the water tray, and further extend children's curiosity by encouraging them to find other objects that might float or sink. Staff provide opportunities for younger children and babies to experience sensory play. For example, children make marks and patterns using their hands and fingers in the shaving foam. Staff help children to recognise emotions as they draw different facial expressions in the foam.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children settle well as key staff are attentive and sensitive to their needs. Clear communication with parents helps staff understand children's needs and interests well. Staff use praise and encouragement effectively to promote children's confidence and self- esteem. They help older children to understand how their actions affect others to support them to play well together, share and take turns. Staff effectively support children to gain an understanding of the space around them to play safely. They provide children with regular outdoor play, to develop their coordination skills as they run, kick and catch balls.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points, and gain the skills they need for their next stage in learning, including moving on to school. Older children are confident communicators. They show enthusiasm for activities and demonstrate good cooperation as they share ideas. Children gain good independence from a young age that enables them to manage their own personal needs and do things for themselves.
