This provision is good
Children make good progress and develop skills ready for the next stage in their learning. The childminder uses observations and assessments well to monitor their progress and plan activities that promote learning. For example, after observing children's interest in making sounds, the childminder planned an activity playing with drums to extend their learning experiences. Young children develop a love of books. The childminder reads stories with enthusiasm, which children respond positively to, which helps them learn to concentrate and listen well. Partnerships with parents are highly successful. The childminder and parents work closely together to promote children's learning. For example, they share children's achievements and plan their next steps in learning together. This helps parents to continue their children's learning at home. Children's personal, social and emotional development is promoted well. The good

relationship that children have with the nurturing childminder helps them to feel safe and secure.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, there are missed opportunities for children to make choices and develop their own ideas when playing. The childminder does not always extend her knowledge and skills further to help her promote children's outcomes to an even higher level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors. The inspector had discussions with the childminder. The inspector took into account the views of parents and carers. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's records and the childminder's written self-evaluation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of her role in safeguarding children and the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child. She maintains high standards of safety and completes thorough risk assessments of everywhere that children go to help keep them safe. The childminder evaluates her provision well. She values parents' views well and works closely with them to make changes tailored to children's needs. For example, the childminder took account of their suggestions and purchased resources to promote children's early walking skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children thoroughly enjoy learning in a welcoming and stimulating environment. The childminder arranges the room to reflect their interests and ensures that children's favourite toys are available to involve them in their play and learning well. For example, children help themselves to farm animals and enjoy matching the sounds they make to them, encouraged by the childminder who makes suggestions to build on their learning. The childminder responds to children's play to extend this further. For example, when a child showed an interest in balls, the childminder built on that skill through encouraging them to roll and catch a ball. Children are beginning to understand number and pattern. For example, the childminder plays games which encourage them to clap their hands in time to counting.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have a good understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The childminder supports children's understanding effectively during imaginative play. For example, she helps children to practise hand washing skills when pretending to cook at the toy kitchen. Children choose healthy foods for lunch and develop an understanding of why and when they are tired. The childminder works closely with parents to follow children's home routines, which helps them to settle well. Regular visits to toddler groups help children to develop their social skills, such as sharing and taking turns. Children receive praise which builds their self-esteem well.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children engage enthusiastically in activities that promote learning in all areas of their development. They confidently take part in new and interesting experiences. For example, children explore textures and materials, such as a mixture of flour, water and paint. Young children learn about themselves and the world they live in. For example, they enjoy looking at themselves in the mirror, and learn about simple technology when they pretend to talk on the telephone. Children make good progress from their starting points and are well prepared for their future learning.
