Management arrangements have changed since the time of the last inspection. The current manager overseeing this home is registered to another home in this organisation. She is a skilled and experienced manager who is now in the process of applying for registration at this home. She has a very clear vision for the young people and is dedicated to improving all outcomes for them. They have an impressive leadership style that staff and young people respond well to.

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

There are a stable group of young people living in this home who are continuing to make very good progress. The manager and staff make sure that all achievements are celebrated and young people are rewarded with incentives such as day trips out and treats of their choice.

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Young people have respectful, warm, nurturing attachments with staff. Behaviour management works well as incidents are managed in a sensitive manner, which fully takes account of their individual needs. The use of sanctions and restraint are rare; this is because staff intervene early with verbal prompts to de-escalate any potential problematic behaviours. Also, because they know the young people well.

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

All young people attend education and apart from one day of illness have had 100% attendance. Staff work closely with all of the educational placements as would a good parent. They also provide transport to and from schools.

There have been some changes to the staff in the home. Staff report feeling very well supported in their role and have welcomed the changes made. The manager has a clear plan to improve the service in the best interests of the young people and consults them about these; for example more photographs, memory boxes and life story work. This also includes notebooks which, are written specifically to young people; and reinforce achievements and build upon their confidence.

Information about this inspection

Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children's home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition the inspectors have tried to understand what the children's home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
